The IEA Children's Fund provides financial assistance to Idaho public school children and their families who face extraordinary needs.
Operating as usual
The IEA Children's Fund would like to pay tribute to an educational leader, Idaho's former Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Marilyn Howard.
She was a guiding force in education and a lifelong advocate for the children, their families, and educators of Idaho. An educator herself, Marilyn led by example and is dearly missed.
We would like to honor her with a memorial.

Living in Shelter
Another student has been living in a shelter home until he graduates from high school.
His bicycle was his main transportation to school and his part-time job.
Unfortunately, it broke down; and he was not able to get to school or his job readily.
The Children’s Fund gave money to his teacher to get his bike repaired, and now he is able to get to school and work.

**This is a recent story from a teacher that used the fund to help his students.
I'm so thankful for the Children's Fund. We have two students in my school. One is a first grader and his brother is in Kindergarten. Their parents are below the poverty level but are very prideful and love their kids very much. Recently, the father was just diagnosed with cancer and is going through treatment. It's not good. It has effected the family tremendously, and they are struggling to pay their bills.
As a school staff, we asked them if there was anything we could do to help. They could have said anything and been very selfish, but all they wanted was some help paying for a camp to send their two children to.
It is a two day, informative kids' camp that teaches them all about cancer, how to live with a loved one who has it, and how to deal with all the anxieties because of it. What a neat opportunity, and what a selfless request it was! They needed $330 for this camp but had no extra money to pay for it.
This is where the IEA really stepped up, and I'm so appreciative. Although cash donations aren't really an option, we asked the family if we could help them with groceries or purchase some summer clothes instead, so that they could use whatever money they had to get their kids to that camp. They agreed.
The IEA sent me a check for the $330, and that is exactly what we are going to do. Our counselor is taking a group of teachers shopping to get the most for the money. I guarantee, they will find a way to triple that money when it's all said and done by finding amazing deals.
Again, thank you so much for helping us out. Your contribution will go a long way, and this family will never forget how special this organization is. I'm proud to be a part of it.
