New Faces, New Ideas: Meet Three New Gardner-Webb Faculty

A new season. A new host. And three new faculty members ready to make their mark at Gardner-Webb University.

The Bulldog Mindset returns for Season 3 with Dr. Robert Prickett, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, stepping behind the microphone as the show's new host. For his first conversation, Robert welcomes three new members of the Gardner-Webb faculty: Wayne Durr, Assistant Professor of Finance; Dr. Christina Johnson, Assistant Professor of Biology; and Dr. Tyler Thomas, Assistant Professor of Computer Science.

Their disciplines couldn't be more different, and neither could the paths that brought them to Boiling Springs.

Hi everyone! I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Social Media Coordinator for the College of Arts and Sciences!

I’ll be helping coordinate and manage our social media accounts, and I’m looking forward to connecting with everyone and sharing what our college is up to.

I’m currently pursuing my MBA in Business Administration, and I’m excited for the opportunity to be part of the team and help highlight our college, programs, events, and student experiences.

Our Dept of Music has a new scholarship opportunity!

The Robert and Evelyn Cabaniss Music Scholarship is designed to support aspiring music educators. It has been recently endowed by Mark Cabaniss, Garry Cabaniss, and Michele Cabaniss Peraldo. These siblings chose to honor the legacy of their beloved parents, Robert and Evelyn (pictured above), by creating this scholarship opportunity for students who share the Cabaniss family's passion for music and the value of education.

Our Department of Natural Sciences has a new program offering beginning this fall! Students will be able to earn a BA in Chemistry, a degree which will allow those who want to earn a degree in chemistry to develop additional skills in other, humanities-centered fields, such as English, Psychology, or World Languages. Faculty members Dr. Ben Brooks, Dr. Venita Totten, and Dr. Stefka Eddins have worked to establish this new program. Dr. Brooks shared, "The ideal student for this major is someone who loves chemistry but wants to take courses from other disciplines beyond what is offered in the general education requirements."

Meet another of our Summer Scholars, Slawka Ndubuisi!

Slawka is a Psychology major with minors in Business Administration and Biology. The focus of her research is on the correlation between time spent on social media and feelings of inadequacy. Her goal is to test her hypothesis that people who spend a lot of time on social media feel more obligated to fit their appearances into certain standards than those who spend less time on social media. We are cheering for Slawka as she completes her study!

Meet Summer Scholar Hannah White!

Hannah is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Forensic Science. This summer, her research relates to her interest in drug toxicology and involves testing the hydration process of different dilutions of common household drugs (Ibuprofen, Advil, Tylenol, allergy medicene) under different environmental conditions of temperature and light. The goal of her research is to explore how drugs could degrade in relation to forensic criminal investigations.

We are wishing Hannah the best as she conducts her project!

Meet Max Salerno, another of our Summer Scholars!

Max is a Criminal Justice Administration major in our Dept of Public Service, with minors in Homeland Security and Psychology. This summer, Max is conducting a psychology study titled "Psychological Pathways to Radicalization in U.S. Lone Extremism: Behavioral Indicators and Reasoning." We are excited for him as he works on his study this summer!
