RESULTS ARE IN - To our Rebel Band Family, it is with a heart full of gratitude, overwhelming pride, and indescribable joy that I share this historic news:
For the first time in Rivercrest ISD’s 60-year history, the Rivercrest High School Band has been selected as the 2027 Texas Music Educators Association 1A/2A State Honor Band Champion.
Five years ago, we dared to dream. We believed that a small school from Red River County could stand alongside the very best in our state—not because of our size, but because of our desire to be the best we could be. We committed ourselves to building a culture rooted in excellence, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of becoming better every single day. A culture where all students are welcome and have the opportunities to grow and succeed.
This dream was never about winning a title or trophy. It was about creating opportunities for young people. It was about teaching perseverance, accountability, sacrifice, and pride in one’s work. It was about building something that would outlive any one performance, any one season, or any one director.
Today, our dream has become a part of both Rivercrest history and Texas band history!
This achievement belongs to so many people. It belongs to every student who chose one more rehearsal, one more rep, one more chance to improve. It belongs to every parent who sacrificed evenings and weekends, every teacher who supported our students in the classroom, every coach who encouraged them to be their best, every staff member, administrator, school board member, and community supporter who believed in this program long before today, and followed through their supportive words with supportive actions!
Most of all, it belongs to the incredible young men and women of the Rivercrest High School Band. Your work ethic, character, resilience, and belief in one another have inspired your directors every single day. You have proven that greatness isn’t determined by the places we come from—but the places we are going!
To everyone who has been a part of this journey over the past five years—thank you. Thank you for believing in a vision that sometimes seemed impossible. Thank you for trusting the process. Thank you for helping build a program that our students, our school, and our entire community can be proud of.
Today, Rivercrest’s name is once again forever etched into Texas band history. And while we will certainly celebrate this incredible accomplishment, I hope what lasts even longer than the trophy is the legacy these students have created—a legacy that says no dream is too big, no obstacle is too great, and no community is too small to achieve extraordinary things.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for allowing me the privilege of serving these remarkable students and this amazing community. We have truly built something special here!
