Race Day at the Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering and Computer Science! ๐ค
After multiple lab sessions building their remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), FAU Engineering students brought their designs to the pool at Engineering West to put them to the test.
From achieving buoyancy to maneuvering their ROVs underwater, students applied engineering skills, teamwork, and problem-solving in a hands-on challenge.

๐ง Protecting Floridaโs waterways through engineering and AI.
Researchers in the Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering and Computer Science have received an $800,475 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop an AI-guided system designed to remove excess phosphorus โ a major driver of harmful algal blooms โ from freshwater systems.
Led by Professor Masoud Jahandar Lashaki, Ph.D., the FAU team will combine artificial intelligence, environmental engineering, and 3D printing to create reusable structures made from sargassum that capture phosphorus from water and lake sediments.
The team will test the technology in Lake Okeechobee to improve water quality, reduce harmful algal blooms, and develop a scalable solution that could be adapted for waterways across the U.S. and around the world.

Free for FAU students, faculty, and staff.

๐ฆพ The future of prosthetics isn't one-size-fits-all.
At Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science, Erik Engeberg, Ph.D., and his research team are developing AI-powered prosthetic technology designed around the individual.
Using custom 3D-printed wearable sensors and personalized AI models, the system learns each user's unique muscle patterns and converts them into real-time control of a robotic hand.
The result? More natural movement, greater responsiveness and a prosthetic system that adapts to the person โ not the other way around.

Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science successfully completed its first offering of Hacking for Defense (H4D). This nationally recognized program connects students with real problems from the U.S. Department of War and the Intelligence Community.
Led by Professor Hari Kalva, student teams developed innovative solutions in AI, autonomous systems, cognitive monitoring, and advanced training technologies while working directly with defense partners.
We're especially proud that Project Firefly was selected for the Defense Innovation Unit's Commercialization Fellowship, which will advance its technology toward real-world deployment.
