Congratulations to Nikhil Prabhakar, M2, on spending his summer advancing research through the 2026 Alpha Omega Alpha Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship.

At the Center for Tissue Engineering in California, Nikhil investigated the potential of GLP-1 medications to improve wound healing and reduce fibrosis while gaining hands-on experience in translational research. His summer also included observing plastic surgery procedures, conducting laboratory experiments, and broadening his clinical exposure through the Urology department.

"What I enjoyed most was the range of my research experience—picking up a whole set of new research skills while also getting to watch surgeons work up close."

Nikhil expressed his gratitude to Dr. Lisa Martinez, AOA Chapter Councilor at Florida Atlantic Schmidt College of Medicine, Dr. Mary Ziegler, the laboratory's lead scientist, and Dr. Alan Widgerow, principal investigator of the Center for Tissue Engineering, for their mentorship and support.
