What can a drop of water tell us? 👀🧪
The students in our Coastal Science Class answered this question during a hands-on Everglades Classroom research experience alongside researchers from Nova Southeastern University.
The students explored environmental DNA (eDNA), collected and filtered water samples, analyzed DNA, and uncovered what these tiny clues can tell us about the ecosystems around us.
Real samples. Real research. Real scientists in the making. 🧬🌿

When the classroom IS the lab. 🔬
Our students didn't just learn about the scientific method - they got to think, question, investigate, and discover like scientists. 🧪
With lab coats on, students, alongside members of our Research and S.T.A.R.S. teams, used seashells and the Scientific Method to question, hypothesize, plan, conduct, record, and communicate their findings. 🔎
Because when students are given the opportunity to step into the lab, curiosity becomes investigation, and questions become discoveries.

🧪 Our students don't just learn about science from a textbook; they step into the lab and experience it. This week, students across our school are learning what it means to be safe, responsible scientists.
Our elementary students took their Lab Safety Pledge and put their observation skills to work spotting lab hazards, while our middle school Medical Inspectors & Innovators put their PPE (personal protective equipment) knowledge to work, and even tackled the dreaded glove removal test using ketchup to simulate hazardous waste! 🧤🍅
Because here, being a scientist starts early, and learning by doing is part of the experience. 🦉🥼
