How is the STEM teacher pipeline faring in high-need schools? 05/15/2026

New national media recognition for the College of Education 👏

Research by Dr. David Kumar was recently cited by K-12 Dive in an article examining the growing challenges facing the STEM teacher pipeline in high-need schools.

The article highlights findings from a collaborative study involving Florida Atlantic University, The Brookings Institution, and Texas State University, which found that while the number of newly trained STEM teachers has declined significantly in recent years, high-need schools have shown surprising resilience in maintaining STEM teacher qualifications over time.

The research also emphasized the importance of targeted support programs, competitive teacher compensation, and initiatives like the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program in helping strengthen and sustain the STEM teacher workforce.
