I don’t believe in judging anyone for where they choose to live. Everyone has different circumstances, families, finances, responsibilities, and challenges that we may know nothing about.

But not judging people doesn’t mean we have to stop recognizing our values.

I believe living in Israel is a Jewish value. I believe Aliyah is something we should aspire to, talk about, and encourage. I believe Israel is the homeland of every Jew, even if moving here isn’t possible for everyone right now.

There’s a difference between judging someone for not making Aliyah and refusing to say that Aliyah matters.

I will never judge another Jew for staying in the Diaspora. But I also won’t pretend that Israel “isn’t for everyone.”

Israel is for every Jew. When and how you get here is your own journey.

Aliyah isn’t a lifestyle preference. It’s a mitzvah.

This isn’t about judging anyone who isn’t here. It’s about recognizing where we belong and what we should be striving toward. Because the second we start saying not just that picking and choosing is okay, but that what we don’t choose doesn’t actually matter, we turn into a watered down version of torah.
Being on your own journey is why we are in this world, but let’s not deny God’s truth.
