Detoxification has become a cornerstone of functional and longevity medicine, yet practitioners continue to see dramatically different patient responses. While some individuals experience meaningful improvements in health and vitality, others plateau, struggle with treatment, or fail to achieve lasting results. What accounts for the difference?

Join Dr. Drew Kidder, Vice President of Education at CellCore Biosciences, in conversation with Dr. Emily Hernandez, Naturopathic Doctor and Director of Healthcare Practitioner Education at CellCore, as they explore why successful detoxification depends on more than simply removing toxins.

Autophagy is the body's cellular cleanup process, a method of removing damaged proteins, organelles, and pathogens by encircling them in double-membrane structures called autophagosomes.

The autophagosomes fuse with lysosomes, degrading and recycling the damaged cellular material into reusable building blocks like amino acids, fatty acids, and nucleotides to maintain cellular homeostasis, enable metabolic adaptation, and support the cellular stress response.

❓Are the keys to healthy aging hidden in the human digestive tract?

Emerging research shows that the gut microbiome, with its trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes, is a major factor in determining how we age, how long we live, and how well our body's defenses protect against systemic inflammation and disease.

The link between a diverse gut microbiome and an improved healthspan means that promoting gut health through diet, lifestyle, and targeted therapeutics may offer a viable path to healthy aging.

Some children get better on everything you’d expect to work. Some don’t.

Same protocol. Same clinician. Different child.

For years I assumed the ones who didn’t respond were missing a piece of the functional medicine workup. They weren’t. What they were missing was the cellular signal of safety – the all-clear that the alarm bells can switch off, and the body and mind can return to health. Until a child’s nervous system registers safety, the cellular alarm doesn’t switch off, and healing doesn’t finish.

This is the Health and Healing Cycle, and the alarm that sets off the Cell Danger Response – so beautifully described by Dr. Robert Naviaux.

🧠 That’s the piece almost nobody was taught. Not the diet, not the exposures, not the sleep. The signal that tells the body it’s over.

It’s also the most accessible thing to change. Breathing, humming, singing, gargling. Most of that list is free.

I’ve walked through the whole mechanism in the post — cellular how the alarm gets stuck, what the vagus has to do with it, how to measure vagal tone, and why the microbiome is part of the same conversation.

This is such an important topic for pediatric practitioners that as Chair for A4M Pediatrics, I’ve chosen 2 sessions on this for our Pediatrics Reimagined Summit in Nasvhille. Mine on Friday discussing the microbiome, neuroception and the cell danger response. And Navaz Habib, DC | Vagus Nerve Doc Pediatric V.A.G.U.S. Protocol on Saturday. I’ll give you the mechanism. He’ll give you the protocol.

Do we really know the “safe” level of toxins in our kids?

The honest answer is that often what we believe to be safe today, is proven to not be later.

⚖️ We’ve lowered the “safe” level of lead five times since 1960. We’ve never once raised it. Sixty. Then thirty. Then twenty-five. Then ten. Today, no safe level.

It’s not about knowing what’s safe today. It’s about knowing how to build resilience to keep our kids safe for a lifetime. Because let’s face it - avoiding every toxin is not possible in our modern world.

Our children don’t just face one toxic compound at a time - they face multiple. And we have no data on the cumulative and synergistic effects of these combined exposures.

Our patients face exposure from conception onward — that argues against aggressive protocols, not for them.

🌱 The work is making detoxification a lifestyle.

I’ve put the foundations of this work in the post, including fiber, phytonutrients, fermented foods, the four routes of elimination, and what each one can and can’t clear.

👉 Learn more at A4M Pediatrics Reimagined Symposium. We have 4 sessions on this in Nashville, including Dr. Bruce Lanphear of Little Things Matter – the leading expert and advocate on toxicants and children.

If you’ve been searching for a place to learn evidence-based pediatric functional medicine, in a room of like-minded practitioners — this is the conference you’ve been looking for.

Five years ago, I stood in a hallway at our very first A4M Pediatric Summit with a vision to build an annual, go-to training for pediatric functional medicine practitioners. I knew there was a need. I’d been feeling it myself for two decades.

In September, we do it for the fifth time.

Three full days. 22 world-class faculty. Every single talk about children.

Your patients don’t come in neat diagnostic buckets, and neither should your training. At Pediatrics Reimagined you’ll learn an integrative functional medicine approach to:

✨Immunometabolism and food as information — Robert Lustig
✨Environmental toxicants and children — Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH Little Things Matter
✨Autism subtypes and treatable pathologies — Elizabeth Mumper, MD
✨Eczema as a whole-body disease — Ana Maria Temple MD | Holistic Pediatrician
✨Interrupting the atopic march — Dr. Ruchi Gupta
✨Beyond MTHFR: methylation, methylfolate vs. folinic acid — 🌿 Dr. Amy Derksen, ND, FMAPS
✨The home that disrupts your microbiome — Dr. Pejman Katiraei
✨Concurrent Lyme and mold — Dr. Myriah Hinchey and Dr. Jill Crista - Mold, PANDAS/PANS
✨Infections in pediatric mental health — Zendi Moldenhauer
✨Teen obesity and fatty liver — Dr. Emily Gutierrez | Neuronutrition Associates
✨Pediatric airway and inflammation — Dr. Anastacia (“Staci”) Whitman
✨Genomics as a clinical tool — Sharon Hausman-Cohen, MD of IntellxxDNA
✨The biology of resilience: microbiome, neuroception and the cell danger response — Elisa Song, MD
✨The pediatric V.A.G.U.S. protocol — Navaz Habib, DC | Vagus Nerve Doc
✨Vaccinomics and adversomics — Dr. Ari | Brain Health & Neurodevelopment | Pregnancy+
✨And so much more!

You won’t just get theory. You’ll know exactly what to do on Monday morning.

This isn’t just a curriculum. This is a community – YOUR community. And it keeps getting better.

Let’s reimagine pediatrics together.

Today's children are facing chronic illness at rates we've never seen — anxiety, ADHD, autoimmunity, eczema, PANS/PANDAS, and more. But beneath the diagnoses lies a connected story: the gut, the brain, and the environment are all shaping our kids' health from the ground up.

In this live webinar, Dr. Elisa Song will connect the dots — showing how the gut-brain axis and everyday toxic exposures drive pediatric chronic illness, and how a root-cause, resilience-focused approach can transform outcomes.
