Detoxification has become a cornerstone of functional and longevity medicine, yet practitioners continue to see dramatically different patient responses. While some individuals experience meaningful improvements in health and vitality, others plateau, struggle with treatment, or fail to achieve lasting results. What accounts for the difference?
Join Dr. Drew Kidder, Vice President of Education at CellCore Biosciences, in conversation with Dr. Emily Hernandez, Naturopathic Doctor and Director of Healthcare Practitioner Education at CellCore, as they explore why successful detoxification depends on more than simply removing toxins.

Autophagy is the body's cellular cleanup process, a method of removing damaged proteins, organelles, and pathogens by encircling them in double-membrane structures called autophagosomes.
The autophagosomes fuse with lysosomes, degrading and recycling the damaged cellular material into reusable building blocks like amino acids, fatty acids, and nucleotides to maintain cellular homeostasis, enable metabolic adaptation, and support the cellular stress response.

âAre the keys to healthy aging hidden in the human digestive tract?
Emerging research shows that the gut microbiome, with its trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes, is a major factor in determining how we age, how long we live, and how well our body's defenses protect against systemic inflammation and disease.
The link between a diverse gut microbiome and an improved healthspan means that promoting gut health through diet, lifestyle, and targeted therapeutics may offer a viable path to healthy aging.

Some children get better on everything youâd expect to work. Some donât.
Same protocol. Same clinician. Different child.
For years I assumed the ones who didnât respond were missing a piece of the functional medicine workup. They werenât. What they were missing was the cellular signal of safety â the all-clear that the alarm bells can switch off, and the body and mind can return to health. Until a childâs nervous system registers safety, the cellular alarm doesnât switch off, and healing doesnât finish.
This is the Health and Healing Cycle, and the alarm that sets off the Cell Danger Response â so beautifully described by Dr. Robert Naviaux.
đ§ Thatâs the piece almost nobody was taught. Not the diet, not the exposures, not the sleep. The signal that tells the body itâs over.
Itâs also the most accessible thing to change. Breathing, humming, singing, gargling. Most of that list is free.
Iâve walked through the whole mechanism in the post â cellular how the alarm gets stuck, what the vagus has to do with it, how to measure vagal tone, and why the microbiome is part of the same conversation.
This is such an important topic for pediatric practitioners that as Chair for A4M Pediatrics, Iâve chosen 2 sessions on this for our Pediatrics Reimagined Summit in Nasvhille. Mine on Friday discussing the microbiome, neuroception and the cell danger response. And Navaz Habib, DC | Vagus Nerve Doc Pediatric V.A.G.U.S. Protocol on Saturday. Iâll give you the mechanism. Heâll give you the protocol.

Do we really know the âsafeâ level of toxins in our kids?
The honest answer is that often what we believe to be safe today, is proven to not be later.
âď¸ Weâve lowered the âsafeâ level of lead five times since 1960. Weâve never once raised it. Sixty. Then thirty. Then twenty-five. Then ten. Today, no safe level.
Itâs not about knowing whatâs safe today. Itâs about knowing how to build resilience to keep our kids safe for a lifetime. Because letâs face it - avoiding every toxin is not possible in our modern world.
Our children donât just face one toxic compound at a time - they face multiple. And we have no data on the cumulative and synergistic effects of these combined exposures.
Our patients face exposure from conception onward â that argues against aggressive protocols, not for them.
đą The work is making detoxification a lifestyle.
Iâve put the foundations of this work in the post, including fiber, phytonutrients, fermented foods, the four routes of elimination, and what each one can and canât clear.
đ Learn more at A4M Pediatrics Reimagined Symposium. We have 4 sessions on this in Nashville, including Dr. Bruce Lanphear of Little Things Matter â the leading expert and advocate on toxicants and children.

Today's children are facing chronic illness at rates we've never seen â anxiety, ADHD, autoimmunity, eczema, PANS/PANDAS, and more. But beneath the diagnoses lies a connected story: the gut, the brain, and the environment are all shaping our kids' health from the ground up.
In this live webinar, Dr. Elisa Song will connect the dots â showing how the gut-brain axis and everyday toxic exposures drive pediatric chronic illness, and how a root-cause, resilience-focused approach can transform outcomes.
