EXPOSITION DE LA FRANCOPHONIE / FRENCH FESTIVAL DAY
FAIS students spent March learning about the French-speaking world through art, music, geography, and more.
To celebrate, teachers organized an exposition. Work from each grade was mounted on the walls, and classes took turns to tour the room.
At the end of their tour, students enjoyed a sampling of food from around the world, including Gruyère cheese 🧀 (Switzerland), Moroccan pastries, and waffles 🧇 (Belgium) amd maple syrup (Canada), and baguette bread (France).
Here's what each class presented:
🎨 Our Pre-K/MS class used construction paper to create art inspired by French artist Mika. The students in kindergarten/GS painted pictures based on the work of author Hervé Tullet (Mix It Up!).
🏳 Students in 1st grade/CP colored the flags of each Francophone country while learning about how French is spoken on 5 continents.
🎤 The 2nd & 3rd grade/CE1 & CE2 students teamed up to write biographies of singers from Francophone countries.
🌍 Each student in 4th & 5th grade/CM1 & CM2 wrote a report on a different French-speaking country.
🥐 Middle school students researched the cuisines of French-speaking countries, including writing detailed ingredient lists for typical dishes.
Over the next week, we'll be sharing more pictures and videos from today's celebration to spotlight the incredible work done by each class.
A special thanks to our teachers, who worked so hard to put this together!

MARCH 20 IS FRENCH LANGUAGE DAY!
To celebrate, we're sharing a few facts you may not know about the French language:
🌍 There are 220 million French speakers worldwide, including 80 million native speakers.
🌍 French is one of 6 official languages at the UN, and one of 2 at the Olympic Games.
🌍 To date, 29 countries have made French an official language—including France, Belgium, Canada, Haiti, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Switzerland.
🌍 French is full of tongue twisters— just try saying "As-tu vu le vert ver allant vers le verre en verre vert?"
At FAIS, our students learn French beginning at age 3, using a tested bilingual approach that combines the best of the French and American curriculum.
Not only will your child become proficient in a new language, but they will learn math, science, history, and civics through the famously rigorous French program.
Children in grades 2 and up who do not speak French can join our F.L.E. program, which lets them build a solid foundation in French before integrating into our full French program.
Research shows that children who speak more than one language are more adept learners and perform better on exams, even in their mother tongue.
📋 We're now enrolling students for the 2021-2022 school year, starting in pre-K and running through 8th grade.

First they mapped out their volcanoes, then simulated an eruption with baking soda and vinegar.
They measured the results with play-dough.
