Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS) at Florida Atlantic University last week!

It was a pleasure to welcome participants from across Florida, around the country, and abroad for a week of learning and collaboration. Hosted by the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and the Florida Atlantic University - College of Social Work & Criminal Justice, SICSS brought together emerging scholars to explore topics ranging from machine learning and text analysis to causal inference and network analysis.

As one of the newest locations in the international SICSS network, we were excited to welcome this talented group of scholars to Florida Atlantic and hope the experience sparked new ideas and friendships.

We look forward to seeing where their work leads next and, hopefully, welcoming a new cohort next year!

Our nursing students spent Saturday in Pahokee at the Men’s Empowerment & Community Health Fair, providing health education, sharing resources and connecting with community members throughout the day.

Earlier in the week, CARE Grant-supported Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student Sabrina visited the Glades Clubhouse, where she led an educational session focused on depression awareness and mental health.

Through outreach, education and service, Florida Atlantic University Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing students continue to support the health and well-being of rural communities across the Glades.

Our CARE Grant students are in Belle Glade today, completing their academic service-learning projects.

After conducting community assessments and interviews, students identified health education needs and developed presentations focused on diabetes, high blood pressure and heart-healthy diet. The projects are being presented at St. John First Missionary Baptist Church, one of the college’s community partners through the grant initiative.
