There are moments in higher education that remind us why the work matters. This was one of them.
Florida Atlantic Universityâs College of Social Work and Criminal Justice recently celebrated its inaugural class of graduating Deanâs Leadership Academy Vanguards, honoring the journeys that brought them to the CSWCJ, along with the leadership skills that theyâll carry into the communities they serve.
The Deanâs Leadership Academy transitions leadership from theory to lived experience, pairing academic rigor with real opportunities to mentor others and engage with industry leaders, community partners, and policymakers. Walking alongside this inaugural cohort has meant watching their purposes awaken, their confidence deepen, and their leadership emerge.
Congratulations to our first Vanguards. As we learned at the ceremony, this is âThe Threshold to Greater Things!â đŠ

Before Kirk Brown was a CEO, a keynote speaker, or a Distinguished Alumnus, he was a kid who almost walked away from his own future. Today, he leads an organization that prevents more than 1,200 foster youth from facing such moments alone.
We are honored to celebrate Kirk as our 2026 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and are inspired by his work. đŠ

This is the stuff you canât get from a textbook.
Seats fill fast, so claim yours early. Email [email protected] or check fau.edu/sw-cj/sccj for details.
