“PlAy MoRe GaMeS” blah blah. Work on real moves. Learn real skills. Watch film. The game isn’t as “reactionary” as they make it seem.
If you actually STUDY the game, you will notice the patterns, habits, and details that players do.
For example, look at chess. Its not a “fully reactive” game. There’s strategy, set ups, and skilled chess players use anticipation to dictate the game. They understand pattern recognition to make quick and instinctive moves. Basketball is the same. The most skilled players know how to dictate the game and have deep understanding of pattern recognition because they study the game…not simply because they “play alot”.
Process Driven Hoops
A basketball skill development company based out of Boca Raton.
South Florida's premier basketball training company serving the Boca Raton and Broward County area. We teach the game of basketball - providing proven skill development that helps players reach their full potential on and off the court.
Skill is undefeated. Somehow training to master and develop skills and moves in a detailed manner has become “frown upon”. They say ALL training must be done through “playing small-side games”.
They hear two NBA players saying they “just hooped” and learned everything through playing pickup. Or one NBA player just playing 1s all summer. What they don’t account for is the talent level of the player and their experience. This doesn’t work for regular, normal beginner youth players.
Today, kids play AAU almost every weekend, team practices (glorified scrimmages), and still majority of youth players can’t get to a specific spot on the court due to their lack of skill. Why is that?
Playing games doesn’t increase your IQ, feel or skill set. Developing a skill set and moves gives you freedom to explore the game and make decisions. Watching and studying film builds your IQ. Having “feel” comes from having skill and IQ. It’s the intention on what you are doing and understanding why it works.
So if you want to get to your spot. Train intentionally. Study the game. Go play freely. And love basketball.

Charlie was born and raised in Glades and always dreamed about basketball. He went off to college and became a basketball star and the founder of Process Driven Hoops. While on his basketball journey, he saw how other trainers impacted him and his career in a positive way and he decided that he also wanted to impact and help other in theirs lives and in their careers.
