It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lora "Skeets" Garfunkel Friedkin, who peacefully departed this life in her sleep on June 5, 2024, at the age of 83. Known fondly as "Skeets" by the many who were fortunate enough to know and love her, she leaves behind a legacy of passion, advocacy, and unwavering dedication to the causes she held dear.

In her later years, in Florida, Skeets became a prominent figure in the community through her political involvement and her tireless work with Planned Parenthood. Her fervent advocacy for women's rights led her to partner with the Women's Studies Program at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), where she was a fierce and effective champion for women's issues. Her contributions were so impactful that she became an integral member of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department Advisory Board, helping to shape the future of gender studies and women's rights advocacy.

Skeets' passion for social justice, her dedication to education, and her commitment to making the world a better place will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit, energy, and unwavering dedication serve as an inspiration to us all.

She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the many positive changes she helped bring about. Rest in peace, Skeets. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and minds.
