Operating as usual

Parents who say “would you like a hug?” instead of “stop crying” are creating a society of adults who know how to support others, and themselves.

They’re also my favourite kind of people. I see all of you out there at the playground, the grocery store, the playgroup, the school… I see so much compassion and love and I rarely hear “stop crying” anymore. I still here a lot of bribing and forced sharing and “manners” but I don’t here a lot of children being scolded for crying anymore and that’s really exciting!! What a difference that will make!

“A mom loves you first, then forever.” HWELC would like to wish all the beautiful moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day! Students were very excited to celebrate our annual Mother’s Tea event with their moms and grandmothers. They made them special gifts, sang to them, and served them their food. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen, especially Ms Brittney. ❤️

Here’s to the dads who don’t babysit,
they parent.

They help with the cooking, scramble eggs, and make chocolate chip pancakes on weekend mornings.

They load and unload the dishwasher and help fold and put away laundry.

They apply sunscreen and help rub it in on arms, legs, and faces at the park.

They play dress-up, paint nails, and kiss dolls and stuffies goodnight.

They come home ready to tackle bedtime, reading books and jumping through the bedtime hoops. Or they stay home and take care of the kids so mom can go out and work.

They discipline when necessary because they care about the humans their children will become.

They trip over something and pick it up instead of leaving it on the floor for mom.

They remember vitamins and morning medications for their kids.

They grab the diaper bag to give mom’s back a break.

They’re present and engaged in their kids’ lives,
a shoulder to lean on,
a safe place to turn for advice.

They support mom’s passions outside of motherhood.

They are true partners.

And they show up with so much love.

Here’s to the dads who don’t babysit,
they parent.

The executive function of emotional control relates to managing our emotions in order to get things done and be successful in school, work and life!

For kids with an executive function-challenged brain, emotions can be so tough to manage. Here are some great ideas from for helping them to build those skills.

Cultivating emotional resilience can help children manage those intense feelings and create easier days for everyone.

This week is NAEYC's Week of the Young Child & we participated in Tasty Tuesday by making some yummy snacks!
In Preschool we made dirt with pudding and oreos then topped it with a peep! 💛
In PreK we made pizza bagels by spreading marinara sauce on our bagel, adding cheese and then microwaving it! 🍕

They bounce, wiggle, and jump when you enter a room, the smile on their faces so big, all because it’s you, mom.⁣⁣

They cry and scream when you leave, tears falling down their cheeks, all because they’ll miss you, mom.⁣⁣

They imitate you while playing with a baby doll, the way you open the door for a stranger, and you hear them checking in on each other when someone’s sad, all because they listen to you, mom.⁣⁣
They run to you when they fall and scrape their knees, dry their eyes on your shirt, and expect your hugs and kisses, all because they look to you for comfort, mom.⁣⁣
They act their worst for you, tell you no, and throw their sippy cup on the floor before having an all-out arms and legs flailing tantrum, all because they know you’re their safe place, mom.⁣⁣
They hold up their arms for you to pick them up and hold them safe and tight, all because they know you’ll protect them, mom.⁣⁣
This is how your children show they love you—all because you’re

Quote of the Day

There’s no such thing as too much love.⁣

If your babies are having a hard day,⁣
screaming, crying, and carrying on—⁣
maybe a tooth is breaking through her gummy mouth,⁣
maybe she’s having a growth spurt,⁣
maybe he’s overtired from a night of not enough sleep,⁣
maybe she has a painful diaper rash,⁣
and maybe she just wants to be held—
because sometimes their worlds make no sense to them,⁣
and their skin craves you to hold them close.⁣

So, cuddle your children into a hug,⁣
kiss them on their foreheads,⁣
pick them up and hold them,⁣
carry their hearts⁣
for as long as they want,⁣
at any age.⁣

Because there’s no such thing as too much hugging,⁣
and showing you love them.⁣

Because love isn’t spoiling.⁣
It’s a gift,⁣
a blanket that drapes your children in security,⁣
and lets them come to you as they are,⁣
try things,⁣
and try again,⁣
knowing you’re always there to carry them.⁣

And that’s how they’ll reach their full potential.⁣

So, love them "too much,"⁣
from the moment they’re born⁣
till you take your last breath⁣

Because they’ll feel that love even when you’re gone.
