Just when you thought those wonderful orange cones had gone away, here comes M59 road construction 2.0. With the new roadwork on Highland Rd, west of Bogie Lake Rd, we thought it was a good idea to remind everyone about the technique for traffic going to one lane. We have had some complaints about people blocking lanes and not letting people utilize the open portion of the roadway. Just remember, the roadway is open up until the point that the barrels or cones shut it down. Traffic will flow much better and faster if both lanes are utilized and cars merge in at the end. Also, blocking one lane of travel by driving in both lanes is impeding traffic and improper lane use. Please utilize one lane and allow people to merge in. We just want everyone to get where they need to go as safely as possible.

Learn this and do it . We will all be happier for it .
Highly requested Traffic Tip Tuesday topic: Zipper Lanes.
A zipper merge allows drivers to merge closer to the merge point and take turns, like the teeth of a zipper. This merging saves time, reduces congestion, and keeps traffic moving.

Please. This is a sound strategy. We are so competitive in vehicles . We don’t want people to get in front of us . If drivers cooperate with this zipper merge . We will get through construction a lt quicker . It works .
DON’T MERGE EARLY: Lane closures are common when entering work zones. Resist the urge of being “Midwest Nice” by merging early – do the zipper merge instead! Using both lanes and taking turns at the merge point can help clear backups and keep traffic moving smoothly. Learn more: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/safety-eng/ZipperMerge.aspx

Be safe in work zones
On average, over 700 fatalities occur in work zones each year. Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and passenger vehicle drivers both need to be particularly careful while traveling through work zones. Trucks and buses have limited maneuverability and large blind spots, both of which make operating in th...

Stay alert and know when to stop: On a two or three lane road – drivers on BOTH SIDES of the road must stop when a bus is dropping off or picking up students. On roads with four or more lanes, drivers traveling the opposite direction of the bus DO NOT have to stop.

Let's talk about the zipper merge.
When approaching a construction zone in which a lane is reduced, remember to use the zipper merge. To keep traffic moving, drivers should use both lanes, with drivers taking turns alternating into the open lane.

Please share this and understand . With cooperation like this . Traffic jams can be held to a minimum. It is the fierce competition in vehicles that makes lane ckosures worse
Let's talk about the ole Zipper Merge.
This maneuver, where appropriate, doesn't waste lane space & keeps traffic moving.
Both lanes safely approach the lane closure, then take turns entering the travel lane.
Honestly, most people don't seem to know about this method, so pass it on.
As a final note: If you are the type of person who thinks you are doing the world a favor by driving down the center line to prevent others from zipper merging...STOP IT. You are doing it wrong, not them.
