‼️Introducing the SJCA House Council Executive Committee ‼️

The SJCA House Council is made up of three elected students from each house, making up the initial twelve members, inducted in May of each year.

When the school year begins, the group has the option to add up to four additional students (At-large members) from any of the houses.

Additionally, the NHS President, if not already a member has a non-voting position.

Finally, after the first quarter of the school year, each house elects a Freshman representative to join.

Each year, House Council membership ranges between 16-21 members.

From the eligible membership, our executive board is elected in August to help organize and lead the group for the school year.

From ballroom to weapons room, SJCA freshman and juniors (taking American Literature) spent a sunny afternoon at the Boal Barn Museum and Columbus chapel. Among the myriad treasures coveted by the Smithsonian Museum, Mrs. Moore (as docent), revealed tiny sarcophagi older than Moses, medieval weapons, and a shard of the True Cross.

Thank you Dr. Ohmoto, Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Moore for such a great tour of this local treasure.

Throughout the month of August, SJCA junior Claire Peters put the SJCA Faith Pillar into action by recruiting members of her family (in PA and CA!) - all her siblings, future sister-in-law, Aunt Sharon, grandmother, and parents - to make World Mission Rosaries. Together they made 125 that will be used by attendees to pray the rosary prior to the Mass at the upcoming beautification of Fulton Sheen in St. Louis, MO on September 24th.

In February 1951, while serving as the National Director for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Bishop Sheen designed the World Mission Rosary. Each color on the Rosary represents a different area of the world where the Church continues its mission: Green: Africa.; Blue: Oceania; White: Europe; Red: Americas; Yellow: Asia

Fulton Sheen’s beautification formally recognizes his heroic Christian virtue, honors a pioneer of media evangelization, and marks a major milestone on his path to becoming the first U.S.- born bishop declared a saint.

Spotlight on SJCA Biology - Biology is learning about properties of water through STEM stations. For example, they are learning about ice by tracking surface temperature changes when water is insulated versus not. Honors biology built their own pH scale using household products and red cabbage water as an indicator.
