Piano lessons with Amy Chaplin - developing functional well-rounded musicians.

My goal is to equip students of all ages with the skills necessary to enjoy music for their lifetime in an environment that is warm, nurturing, and stimulating to the learning process. I believe music has the ability to enrich lives and through quality instruction everyone can enjoy the gift of music. I am committed to helping students achieve their goals by providing each student with the finest, most individualized instruction possible. Playing the piano is not just about reading notes on a page but about experiencing and understanding the music as a whole. Thus, I strive to incorporate learning opportunities that will reach all learning styles.

Green Dragonflies by Martha Mier. C has worked sooo hard to get this to this tempo! 👏👏👏

We think it could also be good Halloween music. What would you can it?

Welcoming a new student into your studio is about so much more than scheduling a lesson and handing them books.

There are emails to send, forms to collect, birthdays to record, materials to prepare, accounts to set up, and a dozen little details that are easy to forget when you're doing everything from memory.

Over the years, one simple tool has made all the difference for me: a repeatable onboarding checklist.

In this replay episode of the Piano Pantry Podcast, I'm sharing the onboarding process I've refined over the years and how creating a simple system can make every new student feel welcomed while saving you time and mental energy.

A little spruce up in this corner of the studio. This three tier wooden shelf from Hobby Lobby was the perfect addition!

Summer lessons are going to include famous favorites passed from player to player – tunes that a lot of teachers never officially teach, but a lot of piano players eventually learn from someone else who plays!

Heart and Soul - Chopsticks – Shave and a Haircut… We’re gonna have a little light fun here at Studio 88 all while always learning to understand what we hear in the music.

Congrats to Devin, this year's graduating senior, who was also honored with this year's "Master Musician" Award. Devin is an excellent pianist. Music comes really naturally to him, but he has also been dedicated to his time at the piano over the past 7 years as much as he can. He's been a joy to work with, and I hope that will continue. He's looking forward to going into the workforce this year and is strongly considering continuing lessons on his own into adulthood!

Congrats to Riley, Delayna, and Mason for getting special recognitions this year. Riley had the fastest time at the highest level of our note-naming challenge, Delayna memorized the most pieces, and Mason mastered the most pieces.

Congrats to Ithan, who received the "Legacy Award" for taking at Studio 88 for 8 years! His name is now listed on a plaque in the studio as well, along with 10 others!
