Lifting the Veil - A Gathering by Malcolm Guite

Join us for a weekend of poetry, song, and Arthurian tales in Boston’s Historic Converse Hall to celebrate the life and work of epic poet, priest, rockstar, and friend Malcolm Guite.

This is a hinge moment in Malcolm’s career as he transitions from professor to poet, from defending the arts to presenting them, and Malcolm knew he couldn’t take this journey alone. So, in the spirit of friendship, be ready to hear from some of Dr. Guite’s greatest collaborators like Bruce Herman, Steve Bell, Stephen Crotts, Anna Friedrich, and many more!

This is bound to be a powerful weekend and lucky for you there’s still some tickets left! Visit HopeWords.org to save your seat, and we’ll see you in Boston October 23-24!

Huge thanks to Stephen Crotts for the awesome logo!

Short fiction writers and fans: Robbie went through the wringer to deliver this message. Don’t let him down.

We need short fiction authors for our autumn issue. You can submit your piece today at the link in comments.

This continues to be one of my favorite parts of running the journal.

Every quarter, our HW Literary Journal fellows get a letter and a complimentary art print from the team. Which means I take about an hour to write a note to friends I’ve never met, with one intention: to share a little hope and beauty with them.

I always try and include an excerpt from a poem I’ve read recently and a question. But today I’ll share my question with you!

What do you like to read in autumn?

I prefer short fiction. Poe, Salinger, O’Connor. I think the early darkness and the cool breeze calls for it.

I encourage you to subscribe to the journal, at any tier, but I will say that being a fellow, one of few, is a special thing.

See you in edition 3,
Graci

Maybe there’s no such thing as “a perfect day” this side of heaven, but one that comes close would be spent in a beautiful, historical church, listening to Malcolm Guite talk about the ways beauty, art, and poetry “lifts the veil” on reality and helps us to see all the heavenly things we might have missed.

We can’t wait to have more conversations like these at Lifting the Veil in Boston this October.

Tickets are still available at the link in comments. Get yours before we sell out! We want to see you there!

Addressing some feedback…

The HopeWords Literary Journal is steadily growing because of your support.

We’ve received your message that you’d prefer a printed publication as opposed to an online one and, truthfully, we agree!

But producing something of that sort is expensive and time consuming and we don’t want to jump into it without the knowledge that you’ll be there to support us.

So, if you want a printed publication from your friends at HopeWords, now is the time to subscribe. You’ll be helping us take a step towards our goals by showing us you support our growth.

Head to the link in comments to subscribe today! (And submit your own art while you’re at it!)

What if enchantment never left us?
What if collaboration was the point?
What if we’re all part of the same big story that was written by Love with redemption in mind?

These are the conversations we’ll be having at Lifting the Veil in Boston on October 23-24.

Hosted by Malcolm Guite, and spearheaded by some of his best friends and greatest collaborators, Lifting the Veil will be a weekend of art, music, poetry, story, and community-enriching conversation.

We cannot wait to see you in Boston. Tickets are still available at the link in comments.

An excerpt from “Blessed are the Imaginative” by HopeWords cofounder Travis Lowe, read by other cofounder Robbie Gaines.

Maybe he didn’t mean to, but Travis kind of wrote a thesis statement for HopeWords right into his essay. I encourage you to give it a read. It’s free at HopeWords.org/literaryjournal.
