Practice tip - Always go into a practice session with a plan!

If you sit down to practice your chords by simply repeating them over and over again, you're not using your time most efficiently. Instead, you should find something specific to work on with those chords. Some specific goals include making the chord changes faster, memorizing chord shapes, or even just learning a new chord.

Having a defined goal will make your practice effective, quick, and will leave you with a sense of accomplishment that will encourage you to practice more.

Here is a memory from my final graduate recital!

El Noi de la Mare arranged by Miguel Llobet.

El Noi de la Mare was the final piece of music that I played at the Setnor School of Music. Many programs tend to end on a flashy piece for the finale, but I've always taken the opposite approach and typically end my concerts with something simple and sweet. The piece remains a mainstay in my concert repertoire where I play it in a collection with other catalan folk songs.

El Noi de la Mare is one of many catalan folk songs arranged by Miguel Llobet. The title translates to The Son of the Mother, referring to the Newborn Jesus and Mother Mary.

A little bit about me!

Aidan Elwell is a classical guitarist from Salisbury Center, New York and the director of the Childbloom Guitar Program of Blue Springs. Over the course of his career, Aidan has performed solo recitals and chamber concerts at a variety of venues throughout New York, including Weill Hall at Carnegie. Aidan performs and teaches a variety of instruments: guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele.

Teaching has been a part of Aidan's life for nearly a decade. This experience ranges through different subjects, such as music and the martial arts, and different settings with one-on-one lessons and group classes. As for guitar, Aidan began playing at the age of fourteen and received a degree in guitar performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in 2019 and a Master’s in guitar performance from Syracuse University in 2023.

Aidan now resides in Blue Springs, Missouri with his fiancée and their two Australian Shepherds.
