🤍 October 15 is White Cane Awareness Day! 🤍

Our kindergarten students spent time this afternoon learning about how people who are blind or have low vision may use a white cane to help them navigate their surroundings safely and independently. 🦯

Learning about different ways people experience and move through the world helps our students grow in understanding, empathy, and respect for others. We love helping our Pumas recognize that everyone is unique, and everyone deserves to feel included, valued, and supported! 💚💛

📚💚 The SPE Book Fair is officially OPEN! 💛

One of our favorite things to see (besides kids getting excited about books! 📖) is our 5th graders helping our younger Pumas shop and find just the right books. 🥹 Watching how kind, patient, and helpful they are makes our hearts so happy! 💚🐾

There are still 3 more days to shop the SPE Book Fair, so there’s plenty of time to find your next favorite read! 📚✨

📚✨ Mrs. Spencer has completed her classroom tour, sharing the book The Magical Yet with classrooms across SPE! 💚💛

Our school theme this year is “The Power of Yet!” We’re reminding our Pumas that learning takes time, mistakes help us grow, and just because we can’t do something yet doesn’t mean we won’t! Keep trying, keep growing, and believe in the power of YET! 🐾✨

💬 October is AAC Awareness Month! 💚💛

Today, Mrs. Young, SPE’s Speech-Language Pathologist, visited classrooms to teach students about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)!

AAC includes tools and strategies that help people communicate when speaking is difficult. These may include communication boards, picture symbols, or speech-generating devices.

At SPE, some of our students use AAC to express their thoughts, share their needs, ask questions, and connect with others. By learning about AAC, our students can better understand and support their peers and recognize that there are many different ways to communicate! 💚

A big thank-you to Mrs. Young for helping our Pumas build understanding, inclusion, and meaningful connections! 🐾
