💥💥SNEAK PEEK FROM BOOK 3💥💥
For an hour, hell unfolded.
Needles pierced Abby’s skin. IVs dripped antidotes that made her seize. Her veins blackened, then faded, then blackened again. Luke’s wolf howled inside him, clawing to tear out of his skin and fix this, but he was useless. Powerless.
An Alpha who can’t protect his mate is no Alpha at all.
Finally, a hush fell.
The lead healer, Dr. Warren, slumped against a counter, his gloves slick with blood and herbs. “Stable. For now.”
Luke was at Abby’s side in an instant. Her chest rose faintly, the machines’ screams dulled to murmurs. But the bond still felt…thin. Stretched.
Dr. Warren peeled off his gloves, his face grim. “The synthetic toxin is…adaptive. It’s evolved beyond wolfsbane. We’ve slowed it, but—” He hesitated. “It’s still in her. We don’t know how to stop it.”
Luke barely heard him. He traced the jagged black lines snaking up Abby’s arm from the dart’s wound, his touch trembling. “Wake up,” he whispered, raw and broken. “Please.”
She didn’t stir.
Marcus’s voice cut through the silence. “We’ll find who did this. Tear the world apart if we have to.”
Luke didn’t look up. His thumb brushed Abby’s cold cheek. “Leave me with her.”
Alone, he pressed his forehead to hers, their breaths mingling—one ragged, one mechanical.
“You don’t get to leave me,” he rasped, tears scalding his eyes. “Hear me, Abby? You don’t get to leave.”
Somewhere, a clock ticked.
The poison waited.
