When you think about beautiful destinations, most Americans and most people don’t think of the Philippines. A third world country with many who don’t have much food, clothes, yet still laugh loud, have faith, and live fully no matter want. Joy isn’t what we own, it’s how we see the world and each other.

As an American Filipina, parents born and raised in the Philippines, Super Typhon Tino that hit the Philippines, hits differently. I took Justin and our children to visit the Philippines for the 1st time last summer. We spent time in some of the local villages and communities that were hit the hardest.

What a humbling experience for our children and a reminder to appreciate the simple things of day-to-day life that we are blessed with.

Our daughter, Jordyn, asked if she could raise relief money, one of the ideas that we came up with is a yard sale.

Festival of Lights, celebrating the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. In 2025, it begins on Monday, October 20th, and is a five-day celebration marked by lighting lamps (\(diyas\)), decorating homes, feasting, and performing prayers and rituals, including Lakshmi Puja.

Today is an opportunity to acknowledge the challenges their communities have faced and celebrate the rich history and diverse cultures of Indigenous peoples. We stand in gratitude for their stewardship of the land we share.
