Lifesharing Awareness Month is a celebration of connection, belonging, and the meaningful relationships that make a house feel like home. 💙🏠

For more than 40 years, KenCrest's Lifesharing program has connected people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and dedicated providers who share not just a home, but life together. Every Lifesharing match is unique, but at the heart of each story is the same thing: relationships built on trust, support, and community.

From celebrating birthdays and holidays to sharing everyday routines and milestone moments, Lifesharing is about more than where someone lives. It's about having people who know you, support you, and welcome you exactly as you are.

This Lifesharing Awareness Month, we're celebrating the individuals, families, and providers who open their homes, hearts, and lives to one another every day.

Advocacy starts with conversation! We were grateful to welcome Senator Joe Picozzi to a KenCrest home for a tour and discussion about issues impacting people with disabilities and the professionals who support them every day. Topics included DSP workforce challenges, home and community-based services, and the policies that help people live, work, and thrive in their communities.

Thank you, Senator Picozzi, for your time, thoughtful conversation, and commitment to learning more about these important issues. Advocacy starts with conversations, and we're excited to continue building this relationship as a resource and partner in advancing opportunities for people with disabilities. At KenCrest, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard. 📣🗳️Recently, individuals across our programs participated in a Mock Vote Day, where they learned what to expect on Election Day, explored a voting booth, practiced completing a ballot, and received information about voter registration and voting resources.

The experience was about more than voting. It was about choice, independence, and ensuring people have the knowledge and confidence to participate in their communities and make their voices heard. We're proud to support self-advocacy and help remove barriers so everyone has the opportunity to take part in the democratic process.

Every day at KenCrest, life-changing moments happen quietly. After being born prematurely at 24 weeks, and weighing just one pound and six ounces, Malakai is receiving care at KenCrest’s Children’s Transitional Home.

Every day, he is growing stronger and getting closer to the happy day when he will join his family at home. Malakai’s success is only possible with the support of caring people who believe everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

The Power in Possibilities was on full display at the Rehabilitation & Community Providers Association (RCPA) Conference in Hershey! ✨ KenCrest was proud to join providers and professionals from across Pennsylvania to share ideas, learn from one another, and explore innovative ways to strengthen supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our team presented two sessions focused on workforce development and sustainable supports:
🔹 Win-Win: NADSP Credentialing, Engagement, and Compensation Levers That Stick explored how organizations can use NADSP credentialing to strengthen workforce engagement, support compensation advocacy, and build sustainable professional growth opportunities for Direct Support Professionals.
🔹 Quality Homes, Lasting Supports: A Sustainable LifeSharing Approach, highlighting how LifeSharing continues to evolve to meet changing needs while supporting stability, belonging, and quality of life. The session shared practical strategies for building and sustaining successful LifeSharing programs, including innovative biological LifeSharing models.

Thank you to our presenters, those who attended our sessions, anyone who stopped by our booth, and especially our partners for exploring what's possible when innovation, inclusion, and opportunity come together. 💙 The best part of the conference wasn't just sharing what we know. It was learning alongside partners who are just as committed to expanding possibilities for the people we support!

Thank you to our friends at Resolution Life! 🩵For their International Day of Service, three teams of volunteers visited KenCrest’s Community Living homes and helped to make them sparkle with a fresh coat of paint. The individuals living in these homes chose the colors they wanted for their bedrooms so that everyone has their own space exactly they way they’d like. We are so grateful for Resolution Life’s support of the KenCrest family! 🫶

Every voice deserves to be heard. 🗳️ During Disability Voting Rights Week, we're celebrating the power of civic engagement and advocating for accessible elections for all! People with disabilities have the right to participate fully in the voting process, yet many still face barriers that make casting a ballot more difficult. Disability Voting Rights Week shines a light on the importance of removing those barriers and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to make their voice heard.

At KenCrest, we believe self-advocacy includes having a voice in the issues and policies that impact your life. That's why we're committed to supporting people with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities they need to participate in civic life.
