"I wanna soak up the sun..." πŸŽΆβ˜€οΈ And that's exactly what Martel Richardson did! From smiles in the sand to making memories with his Lifesharing provider and family, Martel spent the day enjoying the last of the summer sunshine. What made this trip especially meaningful was seeing just how far Martel has come.

His provider shared, "This was an amazing trip and shows how far he has come. He has been doing amazing with his new provider." At KenCrest, Lifesharing is all about creating opportunities for connection, independence, and belonging. We're thrilled to see Martel thriving, building relationships, and enjoying new experiences along the way. 🌊❀️

A summer filled with choice, connection, and community! β˜€οΈMaureen has been making the most of her summer by choosing activities that bring her joy and help her stay connected to her community. Through KenCrest's Community-Based Services, she's spent time cooling off at the community pool, treating herself to a nail appointments (pink is her favorite color! πŸ’…πŸŒΈ), and building her independence at home by preparing a delicious taco bake dinner for her family.

Community-Based Services is all about supporting individuals in pursuing their own interests, developing skills, and engaging in meaningful experiences that matter to them. By choosing how she spends her time, Maureen is creating a summer full of fun, personal growth, and memorable moments. πŸ’™

Advocacy starts with education and engagement! πŸ“£ This month, participants in KenCrest's Advocacy Ambassadors Program came together for an in-person training featuring Senior Domestic Policy Advisor Michael Gamel McCormick from Senator Shaheen's office. The session provided valuable insights into the 119th Congress, provisions of H.R. 1 legislation provisions, and the federal budget reconciliation process.

KenCrest's newest Advocacy Ambassadors Program is a 10-month journey that combines leadership development, advocacy training, and legislative engagement, helping participants strengthen their voices and champion issues important to the disability community. Through virtual trainings, legislative visits, and hands-on advocacy experiences, ambassadors gain the tools and confidence to create meaningful change.

We're proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to celebrating the graduation of this year's class at their official pinning ceremony this October. A special thank you to Michael Gamel McCormick for taking the time to share his expertise and help equip our ambassadors with the knowledge they need to be effective advocates.

We're honored to be featured in a recent Philadelphia Inquirer article highlighting concerns about proposed changes to the Head Start program and what they could mean for children and families who rely on these critical early learning opportunities.

The article includes insights from Melanie Brennan, our Executive Director of Early Learning Programs at KenCrest, and features photos taken at one of our Early Learning Centers, showcasing the children, educators, and inclusive environments that make this work so impactful.

At KenCrest, we see every day how high-quality early childhood education helps children build confidence, develop essential skills, and create a strong foundation for future success. Through our Early Learning Centers, we are proud to support hundreds of children and families across Philadelphia with nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences.

Thank you to The Philadelphia Inquirer for helping shine a light on the importance of early learning and the lasting impact programs like Head Start have on our communities!

πŸ’™ This National Nonprofit Day, we're celebrating the people behind our mission!

Every friendship formed, every milestone reached, every act of inclusion, and every opportunity for independence starts with a community that believes everyone belongs.

To the individuals we support, families, employees, donors, volunteers, and partners: thank you for helping create opportunities, build connections, and strengthen inclusive communities every day. Together, we're proving that when people are supported, empowered, and valued, amazing things happen!

🌺🏝️ Aloha from PA Residential! More than 400 individuals supported through our Residential, SIL, and Lifesharing programs gathered at Wentz Run Park Pavilion for an unforgettable day of tropical fun, friendship, and community at our annual Luau Party!

From dancing and laughter to reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, the luau was a wonderful opportunity for individuals and staff from across Pennsylvania to come together and celebrate as one community. All enjoyed a day packed with island-inspired excitement, including: delicious food, arts & crafts, dancing, great vibes with our DJ, and a visit from the ice cream truck!

A special thank you to the many KenCrest staff volunteers who dedicated their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make this event possible. Their support helped create a welcoming, fun-filled day where everyone could enjoy friendship, connection, and a true sense of belonging. Events like these are what KenCrest is all about: bringing people together, building community, and creating meaningful experiences that celebrate each individual! πŸ’™

What do you get when you combine a bounce house, foam pit, rock climbing wall, ball pit, and endless toys? A whole lot of happy kids! πŸŽ‰

Our Early Intervention program recently gathered at Bloom OT and Wellness for a Community Day filled with play, exploration, and fun. From climbing and bouncing to imaginative play, every corner was filled with smiles, laughter, and opportunities to connect.

We're grateful for opportunities like these that encourage play-based learning, support developmental growth, strengthen family connections, and help children and their families grow in confidence together. πŸ’™

Progress worth celebrating! πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰ The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has unanimously approved legislation that would formally recognize Direct Support Professionals as a distinct profession!

For organizations like KenCrest, this matters because DSPs are the foundation of quality supports and services. Greater recognition can help drive conversations around workforce development, compensation, recruitment, and retention, ensuring more people have access to the supports they need.

Thank you to the DSPs, advocates, and community members who continue to champion the value of this essential profession. Your voices are being heard! πŸ’™

KenCrest was proud to welcome members of the Lutheran Services in America Disability Network to Philadelphia for the 2026 Summer Meeting! As the host organization, we were excited to kick off the gathering with an agency spotlight tour, offering members a closer look at KenCrest's mission and the impact of our work throughout the community. Members had the opportunity to visit one of our Children's Transitional Homes and our newest SMART Home in the heart of Philly.

Over the past two days, leaders from across the network and country came together to explore critical issues shaping the future of disability services, including long-term care, Medicaid, Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), innovation, AI in the IDD space, and strategies for strengthening community-based supports.

Guided by a shared faith and commitment to serving others, we're grateful for opportunities like this to connect, learn, and collaborate with organizations that share our commitment to advancing inclusion, advocacy, and high-quality supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Together, we're helping build stronger communities and brighter futures. ✨

A special thank you to our speakers: Marielle Kress – Senior Health Advisor for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee under Sen. Wyden, Sarah Menke – Chaplain at enCircle, Elaine Chhean and Sara Federman – National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP), Katherine Hempstead – Senior Policy Advisor at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and Stacy DiStefano – Founder & CEO at Consulting for Human Services.
