CCDP Head Start

CCDP Head Start CCDP Head Start serves preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 throughout Columbia county.

Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages 3 to 5 from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Children from families whose income fall within the Department of Health and Human Services poverty guidelines are given first priority for enrollment. There is no charge for families that are accepted into the Head Star

t Program. Head Start provides comprehensive services to enrolled children and their families that include health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement, and social services. Head Start also provides for the special needs of children with disabilities and severe disabilities. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. Parents are encouraged to participate in the governing body of Head Start (Policy Council), in the classroom, and in the many special functions that are a part of the program. In recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab reminds Pennsylvanians that "The Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab can analyze your tick, testing for tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Order your test online and learn whether you're at risk before symptoms appear." This service also helps support ongoing tick surveillance and research efforts across Pennsylvania. If you find a tick attached to yourself or a loved one, consider contacting your primary care provider or visiting an urgent care center for guidance on tick removal, monitoring for symptoms, and determining whether preventive treatment may be appropriate.

Protect yourself:
• Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus,
para-menthane-diol, or 2-undecanone. Always follow product instructions.
• Wear clothing treated with permethrin.
• Shower as soon as possible after spending time outdoors.
• Check for ticks daily. Ticks can hide under the armpits, behind the knees, in the hair, and in the groin.
• Tumble clothes in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill ticks on dry clothing after you come indoors. If the clothes are damp, additional time may be needed.
