The school was quiet.
The halls stood still, freshly cleaned and shining under the bright lights. Classroom doors were open, bulletin boards were ready, and colorful signs waited patiently on the walls.
But something was missing.
The students.

The hallways remembered the sound of sneakers walking to class, laughter echoing around the corners, and excited voices calling out to friends. They missed the high-fives, the smiles, and the endless questions that only children seem to ask.
Down one hallway, a classroom chair whispered, “Do you think they’re coming soon?”
“I hope so,” answered a desk. “It’s been awfully quiet around here.”
Then, from somewhere outside, came a faint sound.
A car door closed.
Then another.
The hallway seemed to wake up.
Soon, footsteps could be heard approaching. Voices grew louder. Laughter filled the air. Excited students walked through the doors, carrying backpacks, waving to friends, and wondering what the new school year would bring.
The once-silent hallway smiled.
It had been waiting all summer for this moment.
Because a school isn't really a school without its students.
And now, the hallways were ready!
