The 14th Annual Mid-Atlantic LGBTQA Conference Committee cordially invites undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, civic activists, and independent scholars to submit proposals for this year's conference, to be held at Bloomsburg University on Nov 5th - 7th, 2021. The theme of this year's Mid-Atlantic LGBTQA Conference is “Get in the Gayme: Bringing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into Play.”
After a year of socially distant working, learning, and socializing, we want to create space to celebrate the increased representation of LGBTQIA+ people in athletics, e-sports, video games, tabletop games, and other forms of competitive engagement. We must also acknowledge that increased representation and visibility have riled up haters who feel compelled to escalate their intentionally hateful words and actions. We invite proposals that amplify, openly defy, and/or strategize against actions and legislation that do violence to our community. Please consider exploring the conference theme through research, narrative, poetry, music, performance, visual art, etc., or some combination of forms of presentation.
We encourage proposals that acknowledge intersectionality of identities in regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, s*x, s*xual orientation, gender identity, gender identity, age, national origin, native language, ancestry, disability, or veteran status as well as salient identities not protected by law. In that spirit, we acknowledge that Bloomsburg University is the original homeland of the Susquehannock people, so named by Algonquian-speaking tribes because there is no record of how they described themselves. We acknowledge the decimation of the Susquehannock people by smallpox epidemic after European settlers encroached on the Susquehannock people land.
