Bloomington Center for Global Children

Bloomington Center for Global Children

I am the chairman of the Board of Directors for the non-profit that will be taking over operations of BCGC. With the help of Daniel & Sierra, a board of parent volunteers has been working hard to get all of the pieces in place to keep the doors to BCGC open for years to come! Everything that makes BCGC the unique offering for Bloomington area childcare, will remain the same. In short, the principles of play-based learning, Spanish immersion, healthy, fresh, organic, globally inspired meals, and the strong sense of community will remain as the guiding principles. The only major difference will be the ownership and conversion to non-profit status. As such, we will be in the community more, volunteering, hosting fund raisers, and seeking donations. We thank Sierra & Daniel for their vision, their years of service to the community, and their support as we make this transition. We are excited about the future and the possibilities for the Bloomington community. Please help spread the word the BCGC lives on! For questions and/or enrollment information please contact [email protected].

We are a unique childcare option in Bloomington. We provide Spanish immersion programming; play-based learning; positive discipline; fresh, organic, globally-inspired meals; and a strong sense of community.

Today some of our crafty students painted fireworks just in time for the holiday weekend.
BCGC will be closed tomorrow (July 3rd) in observance of Independence Day.
Wishing everyone a fun and safe 4th of July!

Recently one of our fabulous maestras shared the book El Monstruo de Colores, which is a cute story about a girl who helps her color monster sort out its feelings. The students then did an activity picking out colored pieces of construction paper to put on a plate to signify how they were feeling that day.
This is a great example of one aspect of our curriculum which is focused on helping children develop emotion recognition/regulation and social skills. When children are more socially and emotionally aware and skilled, they can more effectively navigate relationships, calm down and problem solve when challenges arise.

Many of our Pre-K students will be heading to kindergarten this fall. We will miss them so much, but we are so proud of all the progress they have made as students at BCGC!
As 90% of brain development occurs by age five, the short-term and long-term impacts of Pre-K are significant. Students who attend Pre-K have increased vocabulary and literacy, higher kindergarten and first grade school readiness, increased likelihood of completing high school, and are less likely to be placed in special education and grade retention classes. We love being able to give your children an academic boost!

Many of your child’s daily activities—like getting dressed, eating, and writing—require control of small muscles in the hands. These are called fine motor skills.
Here the Toddler 2 class practices fine motor skills with a rock painting activity outside. Our teachers work with your children every day to build on their skills and knowledge—and they make it a lot of fun!

It is great to be back!
After lots of planning and preparation, we reopened BCGC for current students on June 1st.
We are following guidelines and best practices for safety, and it is going very well. (This photo is of a fun glitter germ/hand washing activity in one of the classrooms last week.)
Without the support of our community, we would not have made it through this difficult time. Thank you! ¡Muchas gracias!

We have been closed since March 17th to protect our students and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. We miss seeing everyone and are so excited for the day when we get to come back together safely. Thank you to everyone for your support and patience during these difficult times. We love the BCGC community!
