Make your voice heard! We would love to have you join us for a discussion by Zoom to share your ideas and experiences about health in Monroe County. You'll receive a $25 gift card as a thank you for your valuable time. Please read on . . .

Community Voices for Health (CVH) wants to hear from people who have stories and ideas about health that aren’t usually heard. We know people of color are among the most often overlooked populations and we are committed to bringing many voices to the table. Health is affected by lots of things, like food, exercise, housing, insurance, etc. We want to learn from YOU. CVH invites you to tell us what is important to you about health. Will you tell us what you think?

We’d love to have you join a discussion with a small group of other community members. It is a very easy and comfortable gathering of just a handful of people and is done by Zoom or phone. All you need to do is sign up on our Eventbrite page or with the contact information below, and we’ll send you the details!
https://www.eventbrite.com/.../community-voices-for...

The thoughts you share will remain anonymous, but the information will be part of more discussion and shared with people who make decisions about community health issues. This can lead to new policies that better respond to important health concerns that people have.

Not comfortable with a group setting? You can meet with us one-on-one, or you can share your story with us in writing or over the phone. Instead of registering here, send an email or text to:
Email: [email protected]
Call or text: 812-272-5250
Website: https://www.communityvoicesforhealth.org/

Curious about what the small group discussion will look like?
During the meeting:
-We will listen to you about what is important to you about
health and what you want decision makers to know.
-There are no right or wrong answers.
-You can agree or disagree with other participants.
-We may call on you and you can always pass.
-You can share only what feels comfortable to you.
-Our notes and reports will not include your name or other
identifying details.

Happy IU Day! On this day, we celebrate all things that make IU special, including our cultural centers and communities that help our students feel connected and at home. For the NMBCC, these efforts started over 50 years ago when Dr. Herman Hudson had the vision for our space, and Mrs. Caramel “Mother Culture” Russell brought that vision to life as the first Director of our Center. You can be a part of that legacy and further support our students today! Visit our website, click on the “give” tab, and show your support. ♥️✊🏾

Groupgreeting Cards

Greetings!

Since our 50th anniversary celebration during the 2019-2020 academic year, we’ve committed to celebrating and honoring “Black IU Legends” - individuals past and present who have been instrumental in the development of not only the Black Culture Center space as we know it but those who made Black presence possible at IU by way of curriculum, recruitment and retention initiatives, and leadership.

This semester, as we embrace “Black Stories” as a theme for our programs and initiatives, we want to illuminate the narratives of those Legends and be inspired by their love and dedication to our community. One of those individuals was a remarkable Black woman named Caramel Russell, the first Director of the NMBCC. Affectionately known as “Mother Culture”, Mrs. Russell had a presence and impact that touched so many students, faculty, staff, and community members. She cultivated a space, both literally and figuratively, for Black students to feel a sense of belonging and pride in who they were and who they could become.

We invite you to join us for a virtual event honoring Mrs. Russell’s legacy on April 17 at 2pm EST. Among several special moments of the afternoon will be the unveiling of a beautiful portrait of Mrs. Russell created by renowned Black artist Mr. Joel Washington. Register for the event via the link posted, and, if you had the pleasure of knowing her, share a favorite memory of Mrs. Russell. Hope you can join us!

Peace and Blessings,

Dr. Gloria Howell
