For three days this summer, teachers and IU researchers and faculty came together to create resources that will be used in classrooms during the school year. It’s the third year for the writing intensive called Hearing Each Other’s Voices that lets teachers work with IU experts to solve a challenge within their practice.

‘Born educator’ empowers students through climate science lessons This summer, Ellenor Llona’s dedication to her craft led her to attend the Educating for Environmental Change Summer Science Institute.

IU School of Education Dean Robert Berry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (University of Education Indonesia) in Bandung, Indonesia. The memorandum will enable qualified UPI lecturers to transfer to Indiana University to complete a Ph.D. at the IU School of Education in Bloomington. When they return to UPI, and at UPI’s discretion, they will also be awarded a doctoral degree from UPI, upon the successful defense of their dissertation in Bandung, Indonesia.

About 110 experts in education and educational law gathered this June for the 2026 Martha McCarthy Education Law and Policy Institute. This year’s institute focused on legal issues surrounding curriculum, instruction, and parental rights as well as other current discussions in education law and policy.

Participants included school leaders, school attorneys, academics, undergraduate and graduate students, and K-12 and higher education administrators—all with a vested interest in education law.

As college-in-prison programs grow across the country, researchers at the IU School of Education are launching a new survey designed to better understand and improve the experiences of incarcerated students.

The College-In-Prison Survey of Student Engagement is part of the award-winning National Survey of Student Engagement, with a focus on college students who are currently in prison. With the rise of college-in-prison programs, NSSE researchers recognized a need for high-quality data to help institutions understand and improve the educational experiences they are providing.

This summer, travel the world - through a free summer reading program at the Education Library.

The program, See the World: Global Art & Artists, runs until July 31, is free to all, and includes prizes and a free book for participants. Readers will explore a variety of art mediums, including drawing, book illustration, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and fiber arts, and dance.
