🦋🌎 IB learning in action!

Our second-grade learners have been exploring Sharing the Planet, one of our IB transdisciplinary themes. Through this unit of inquiry, students are investigating life cycles, habitats, ecosystems, and the ways living things interact with and depend on the world around them.

Their inquiry came to life as learners observed butterflies from tiny caterpillars through each stage of their transformation. They watched, wondered, asked questions, and made connections along the way. 🔎🌱

And after weeks of observation, it was finally time to release the butterflies! 🦋❤️

This is what IB looks like at University Elementary—curiosity becoming inquiry, inquiry becoming understanding, and learning extending beyond the classroom into the world around us. 🌎

🦴💪 Learning from the inside out!

After learning about the skeletal and muscular systems through CKLA, our Univees put their knowledge into action! Learners built models of legs complete with bones, muscles, tendons, and joints to explore how the parts of our bodies work together.

And just as impressive? They used focused attention to follow each step of the process — putting their H.E.A.R.T. skills to work while learning! ❤️🧠

❤️ Univees have H.E.A.R.T.! ❤️

We love catching our learners showing H.E.A.R.T. throughout the school day! These Univees were recognized by staff members for demonstrating what it means to be Honest, Empathetic, Accountable, Ready, and Thinkers.

The best part? H.E.A.R.T. can show up anywhere—in the classroom, in the hallway, at recess, or simply in the way we treat one another. ❤️

We’re so proud of these learners for helping make UES a place where H.E.A.R.T. is something we do, not just something we say. 🌎❤️
