It was bittersweet at our PIT Meet today saying goodbye to our most steadfast coach and volunteer, Josh Leney, as he embarks on his undergraduate career at the College of Wooster in Ohio. Thank you so much to Josh for his tremendous efforts with HCA—we wouldn’t be where we are without his commitment, collaboration, and networking support.

Best of luck, Josh! We’ll miss you! 💚♟️

Throughout advanced camp last week, these students brought incredible energy, determination, focus, and just the right amount of humor to make this one of the best groups we’ve had the pleasure of working with. Everyone made tremendous progress, and it was exciting to watch their confidence and understanding grow each day.

We were also incredibly fortunate to have National Master Kevin Wong join us throughout the week. Coach Kevin was instrumental in guiding, teaching, and motivating our campers through engaging reviews of classic master games, interactive whole-group activities, and thoughtful instruction that inspired players of all levels.

We can’t wait for next year’s advanced camp and look forward to watching these players continue to rise on the regional and national chess stage. 🌟

Books & Rooks: Day of Chess - FREE tournament, all ages!

Join us Saturday, July 25th (10:30 AM–4:30 PM) at the Central Library Atrium for a FREE chess tournament hosted by The Indianapolis Public Library. Open to all ages, with Rated Scholastic (K-12), Rated Open (USCF), and Unrated Open sections.

25+5 time control, free t-shirts for the first 50 players who sign in, trophies for top scholastic finishers, and prizes for top finishers in the rated and unrated sections. No registration fee.

🏆 Hoosier Chess Circuit Results – July 2026♟️

We celebrated International Chess Day early this year at yesterday’s Circuit! Thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic competition. It was wonderful to see students demonstrating great sportsmanship, determination, and improvement over the board.

PK-12 Combined:

🥈 George Cimera / Paxon Laflower / Ethan Connors
🥉 Ibrahim Shah

Standout performances included:
• Benny and Miriam played in their first tournament.
• Benny achieved an initial USCF rating of 963.
• 8 kids reviewed games with a coach a total of 14 times throughout the afternoon!

Congratulations to all of our participants for their hard work and positive attitudes. Every tournament is another opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy the game of chess!

CHECK out Chess Fest at the downtown public library on Saturday, August 15! 12:30-2:30pm. It’s free to all, and no advance registration required. There’ll be engaging stations where you can learn to play, play blitz and bughouse, solve puzzles, and peruse the library’s collection of chess books.
