As their final excursion, each IUHPFL site took an overnight trip to their country’s capital city. Students got to see locations of cultural and political importance (such as the Palacio Real in Madrid, Notre Dame in Paris, and the Haus der Musik in Vienna), take the metro, and spend time together before flying back to Indiana. The French teams even got to experience Bastille Day (July 14th) in Paris with fireworks and other celebrations.

This year’s Saint-Brieuc team got to witness the classic French spectacle of the Tour de France! This almost-month-long cycling race passed through Saint-Brieuc on day 7. The students first saw La Caravane du Tour, which passes by before the cyclists and hands out swag to the spectators (see photo 2 for a cool hat!). Then the cyclists came speeding through for just a couple of minutes. It was a unique and fun experience!

IUHPFL greatly appreciates all instructors do for students and the program. From teaching daily classes, to acting as guides, to supporting students in their growth, to being a listening ear when students need it, instructors do so much in the space of the five weeks abroad. Thank you for your hard work, flexibility, and attention to the details of the program!

On Friday, all IUHPFL programs said farewell and thank you to their host families, coordinators, and cities. Through skits, dances, songs, poetry, and more, students shared their talents and gratitude for the experiences made possible by those who welcome us into their communities. It is hard to believe students return home tomorrow!

Today we feature the Almería team! Earlier in the program, they headed to Granada, Spain and got to see the Alhambra, which is a palace built during the period when Spain was under Muslim rule. After touring the palace, the team explored Granada and checked out local shops. Finally, the group met up to tour one of the oldest neighborhoods in Granada where there is a beautiful view of the Alhambra.

We can hardly believe the last full week of the program is coming to an end! Today we want to celebrate all the friendships that have been made while abroad. Even though the program lasts a short time, the relationships will continue on.
