Film Screening: Beneath the Olive Tree-The Truth Lies Below A screening of the award-winning film produced and narrated by Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis.

International Studies Professor Shruti Rana participated in a debate with IN Solicitor General Tom Fisher and Rep. Sue Errington on current Inidiana and Supreme Court abortion cases, on the show "Indiana Lawmakers".

The Department of International Studies' Research Colloquium will launch Thursday, February 7 with a talk by Professor Brent J. Steele, International political theorist from the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah. Professor Steele's talk will be based on a chapter of his forthcoming book, "Restraint and International Relations".

The Academy Award nominated documentary, Fire at Sea, will be shown at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Sunday, Feb 19 at 8pm.

Directed by Gianfranco Rosi, the Italian-language film tells the story of 12-year-old Samuele, who lives in Lampedusa, a once peaceful Mediterranean island that has become a major entry point for African refugees.

The screening is part of The Ryder Film Series and funded in part by the IU Department of International Studies.

Recently we hosted a talk from Deborah Schneider, Staff Director of the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center at the U.S. Department of State on her role within the department and how they work towards reducing the world-spanning risks caused by nuclear weapons.
