Welcome to our first fact Friday! This week we are discussing the protection service dogs have under the federal law, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Service dogs are defined as dogs that are individually trained to work and do tasks for people with disabilities, and are legally defined as medical equipment (ADA).

Emotional support animals (ESA) are defined as animals to provide comfort. While ESAs can be extremely helpful to individuals, they are not defined as medical equipment to provide a physical task, and therefore do not have the rights to go places that service dogs go.
