What a week!

We spent AEFL Week celebrating our **students, educators, community partners, and advocates**—but today, we celebrate what happens when all of those pieces come together:

**SUCCESS.** 💙💛

Success looks different for every adult learner.

It might be earning an HSE diploma. 🎓
It might be learning enough English to have a conversation with a child's teacher.
It might be earning a workforce credential.
It might be getting a new job.
It might be gaining the confidence to take the next step.
And sometimes, success is simply refusing to give up.

At MCCSC Adult Education, we are fortunate to see these successes happen every day.

To our students: **thank you for trusting us with your goals.**

To our educators: **thank you for believing in our students.**

📣 **AEFL WEEK: CELEBRATE ADVOCACY!** 📣

Adult education changes lives—and our community needs to know it.

When an adult earns their HSE, improves their English, gains a workforce credential, or develops the skills needed to pursue a better career, the impact doesn't stop with that individual.

It reaches their **families. Their employers. Their children. Their communities.**

Adult education helps adults become more confident, more employable, and better prepared to reach their goals. And when adults succeed, **our entire community benefits.**

That is why advocacy matters.

We encourage everyone in our community to learn more about adult education, share our message, and help us reach the adults who may not yet know that opportunities are available to them.

You never know who in your neighborhood, workplace, church, business, or family might be waiting for someone to say:

**“It’s not too late. You can still reach your goals.”**

🍎 AEFL WEEK: CELEBRATE OUR EDUCATORS! 🍎

Today, we celebrate the incredible educators who make adult education possible.

Adult education teachers do so much more than teach reading, writing, math, English, or GED preparation. They encourage. They listen. They problem-solve. They celebrate small victories. They meet students where they are—and then help them see where they can go.

Our teachers understand that sometimes the biggest achievement isn't a test score. It's a student who comes back after missing class. A student who finally believes they can succeed. A student who walks into class nervous and walks out feeling confident.

To our teachers, teaching assistants, tutors, and instructional staff:

Thank you for showing up for our students every single day. Thank you for believing in them. Thank you for making a difference.

🌟 **AEFL WEEK: CELEBRATE OUR STUDENTS!** 🌟

Today, we’re kicking off AEFL Week by celebrating the heart of adult education: **our students!** ❤️

Every student who walks through our doors has a different story. Some are working toward their HSE. Some are learning English. Some are building skills for a new career. And some are simply taking the next step toward a goal they once thought was out of reach.

But they all have something in common: **they showed up. They kept going. They believed that their future could be different.**

At MCCSC Adult Education, we get to witness those moments every day—when a student passes a test, reaches a new level, earns a credential, gets a better job, or realizes, *“I can do this.”*

Today, we celebrate every student who has taken that first step—and every student who is still taking the next one.

👏 **We are proud of you. Keep going. Your story matters!**

Next week, Adult Education programs around the country will be celebrating Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) week.

Adult Education programs in Indiana served over 25,000 students in the 23-24 year alone. They helped over 4,200 students earn their high school equivalency diplomas that year, in addition to over 2,800 career certifications. This success generated over $74 million in economic impact for the state, from a $16.9 million dollar investment.

This week, I was fortunate enough to meet with Mayor Thomson for a quick photo and to pick up the Mayor's Proclamation that Sept. 14-20 is officially Adult Education and Family Literacy Week!

We truly appreciate her willingness to continue her support for MCCSC Adult Education and the students that we serve!

The Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children (INAEYC) is pleased to announce the availability of the Child Development Associate (CDA®) credential courses through Indiana CDA Community Programs! Classes and cohorts will begin as soon as August and September 2026!

- Training is provided at no cost to students or employers.

- All textbooks from the National Council for Professional Recognition are provided.

- Support, guidance & assistance are provided from the very beginning and until the end when the CDA Credential is earned!

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Be a resident of Indiana who is at least 18 years of age.
2. Employed in a licensed childcare home, licensed childcare center, unlicensed registered ministry, or legally licensed exempt provider (LLEP/CCDF Provider by OECOSL).
3. Be working 20+ hours/week in Indiana.

4. Have a current Criminal History/Background check on file with the FSSA, Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning.

5. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE).
