Kappa Tau Omega would like to highlight this dedicated caregiver for Alpha Kappa Alpha's Observance of National Caregivers' Day- November 19, 2021

Martha Bradley is the mother-in-law of our sister, Kira Richardson. She selflessly takes care of her elderly mother’s physical, financial, and social needs. This includes running errands, ensuring adequate nutrition, monitoring medications, and performing household chores. Additionally, Martha frequently provides transportation to multiple members of her family- ensuring they are able to get to work, the store, etc. She is the person that everyone relies on to take care of family needs and she rarely receives any recognition or thank you’ a for her service to others. This is why I wish to recognize her on Caregivers Impact Day.

Kappa Tau Omega would like to highlight this dedicated caregiver for Alpha Kappa Alpha's Observance of National Caregivers' Day- November 19, 2021

Gina Benson has moved her 80yrs. old mother into her home. Gina has been taking care of her mother for over 2yrs. before then Gina would drive to Muncie, In. to take care of her mother. Her mother has gone through surgery, has been in a wheel chair. Gina helps her with all her basic needs. Gina drives her mother back to Muncie for her doctors appointments. Gina does this with a lot of patience and love. She shows honor to her mother by responding yes Ma’am and drops what she is doing if her mother is need of something right at the moment. She doesn’t treat her mother like she is a chore. She treats her mother like it’s an honor to take care of her. #careforcaregivers #womenshealthandwellness #servicetoallmankind

Michann is an Occupational Therapist and spends her work dat working with elderly and disabled. She has been an Occupational Therapist for over 20 years and remains committed to bringing out the best in her patients despite the challenges they may face.

As the youngest of 5 children Michann has recently taking additional responsibilities as a key caregiver for her mother. Michann and her siblings recently relocated their 88 year old mother to her home country of Jamaica from New York where the mother is living independently. Michann and siblings have assisted their mother with storage, moving and monitoring construction of their mothers retirement home.

Michann personally oversees the financial matters for her mothers custodial account. Michann recently took two weeks away from Bloomington, Indiana to visit her mother in Jamaica where she set up her mothers ongoing medical care with local doctors, stock piled on essential items for the home, and set the mother up with local caregivers.

While Michann works as a caregiver by career field, has a family and children of her own, the care and attention with which she coordinates her mothers affair from afar is to be applauded. #careforcaregivers #womenshealthandwellness #servicetoallmankind

Did you know that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now live on fafsa.gov?
In Indiana, it’s important to fill out your FAFSA by April 15, 2022. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education reminds Hoosier students that filing the FAFSA by April 15, is imperative for securing money for college and accessing some of the $390 million in state financial aid and billions of dollars in federal aid available for learners.

So often, money is left on the table because students assume they don’t qualify for aid. Filing for FAFSA is required to be considered for many of Indiana’s scholarships and grants such as the 21st Century Scholar Program, the Frank O’Bannon Grant, and the Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant. All students should file their FAFSA so that no money is left on the table!

The U.S. Department of Education provides email and live chat assistance for FAFSA filers as well as a helpline at 800-4FED-AID in case you and your family have questions about the process. Hoosier families can also access free FAFSA Help through INvestED Indiana at www.investedindiana.org.

Applications are now open for the Next Generation Hoosier Scholarship! This scholarship provides up to $7500 per year of college (up to $30,000 total) for top performing Hoosier students who commit to teaching in Indiana for 5 years after earning their degrees. The deadline for this scholarship is January 31, 2022.

For questions about state financial aid, students can contact the Indiana Commission for Higher Education by phone at 888-528-4719 or via email at [email protected].
