Delta Zeta

The third week of October each year is recognized as National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW). This week is dedicated to enriching the minds of students by talking about the effects of alcohol on one’s body, the warning signs of alcohol abuse, social respect and consent around alcohol consumption, preventative social event planning processes and many other topics. More than 800 campuses across the country participate in I Have a Choice, including our chapter at Indiana University, which has become a leader in the education of college-age students about alcohol consumption.

During NCAAW each year, Delta Zeta hosts a “Mocktail” party, where we provide guests and chapter members with snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and facts about alcohol consumption. This year, our Mocktail took place on Tuesday, Oct. 19 and we had a tremendous turn out! Thank you to all who made this possible and to those who came to learn more about alcohol awareness!

Today we celebrate Founders Day and our sisters who brought Delta Zeta Sorority into existence. In 1902, Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Julia Bishop, Mabelle Minton and Anne Simmons came together at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with the vision of forming a social sorority centered around the values of friendship, curiosity, generosity, citizenship, empowerment and belonging. One hundred and nineteen years later, Delta Zeta Sorority has 170 collegiate chapters throughout the United States and Canada.

The Epsilon Chapter at Indiana University is honored to be the fifth collegiate Delta Zeta chapter, and extends gratitude to the six women who made their vision a reality. To this day, we strive to live by the values our founders and sisters held dear, while continuing to build a chapter that is impactful for the women who join our chapter in the future.

We had so much fun talking about our love for our philanthropy, Starkey Hearing Foundation, last week with the amazing girls going through recruitment this year! Starkey Hearing Foundation was created to provide hearing instruments to those in need around the world. We are so proud to be a supporter of Starkey because there is no better feeling than giving the gift of hearing to someone in order to reconnect them with their friends and families! ❤️

And the countdown begins! Only 9 days until we get to meet the women going through 2021 recruitment at Indiana University! While it may look a little different this year and we may not meet face-to-face, we’re still so exited to welcome more women into our chapter and expand our family💗
