Luddy students are putting AI to work on real community challenges, building literacy games for first graders at Bloomington’s Childs Elementary School as part of INFO-I 400: Vibe and AI Programming. Led by Michal Gordon, senior lecturer of informatics, the course gives students hands-on experience using emerging AI tools to move from a real problem to an idea, a working product, and feedback from real users.

Working in teams, Luddy students used AI-assisted programming to design and build interactive literacy games that help first graders practice early reading skills. They then put their prototypes directly in front of Childs students and teachers, observed how the children played, gathered feedback on usability and engagement, and used those insights to improve their designs.
