From Linda Charnes's page: "Our Department's annual Graduate Student Association Conference hosted IUB PhD alum and Executive Director of the MLA, Paula Krebs, as its keynote speaker this past weekend. There were also a series of panels on different topics, including a panel for some of my former PhD dissertation advisees. Five beloved people traveled into town for this celebration, which GSAC and my Department Chair generously decided on their own to do for me. It was an experience that exceeds words for me. The speakers spanned from my first ever dissertation advisee to a few who recently graduated (and one at the end of the pipeline). Courtney Lehmann came from CA; Melissa Jones from Ann Arbor; Caitlin Mahaffy from Mt Holyoke; Samantha Demmerle from U of Kansas; and Megan Vinson.
I'd seen Courtney and Melissa often over the years at conferences, but not very recently (I think maybe ten years or so). Courtney hadn't been back to Bloomington in 27 years! They did the panel, wherein they treated me to exorbitant praise and some embarrassing photos, and then had homemade pizza at my house along with Dept. Chair Purnima Bose, and with the panel's chair, my colleague Penelope Anderson."
🥂 🎉 🙌🏼

Devoney Looser on *Jane Austen's Period Drama*! "There isn’t much in the Austenverse that’s capable of surprising me anymore, but Aks and Pinder’s film blew me away. It’s not only a brilliant homage to Austen’s genius, comedy, and satire, which so frequently explores gender, health, and illness. The short film is also an effective primer about the silence required when “on the rag” in the Regency.... Anyone channeling the great novelist’s sensibilities in 2026 must see Jane Austen’s Period Drama as far more than another bloody mash-up lark. It’s an important vehicle that centers women’s bodies and reproductive health in conversations about the past, present, and future."
