Stepping away from professional sports means navigating variables you cannot control, like roster changes and coaching decisions. For Major League Soccer player Gyasi Zardes, transitioning from a regular starter sparked a new focus: preparing for life after soccer.

"I had to decide if that moment was going to define me," Joey says. "Or if I was going to come back stronger."
