"I wouldn't be the person I am right now without my experience here."
When Victoria arrived in Minnesota from Venezuela, she faced the challenges of adapting to a new language, culture, and educational system. What she found at Normandale Community College was more than an education. She found a community.

She is a passionate artist and storyteller; and uses her creativity to help people feel seen and less alone. Her anime-inspired artwork for the Foundation's Japanese Garden celebration reflected her unique perspective and love of visual storytelling.

Today, Victoria is a proud Normandale graduate and is continuing her journey at the University of Minnesota.

On July 18, 1976, the Japanese Garden was dedicated as a symbol of friendship between Japan and the United States. Its designer, Takao Watanabe, generously donated his services because he believed the garden would be "a symbol of friendship between Japan and the United States and would forever be a place of peace and tranquility." Today, that vision lives on.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Japanese Garden at Normandale Community College, a quiet, living reminder that beauty and reflection have a place in higher education, too. It's proof that a college campus can nurture the mind and spirit.

Fun fact: During the pandemic, when the world felt anything but peaceful, over 40,000 people visited the garden, finding a moment of calm when they needed it most.

What an unforgettable evening at the third annual Rezzys!

Hosted by the Normandale Community College Foundation, the Rezzys bring scholars and donors together to celebrate the impact of scholarships. The event honors retired founding faculty member Don Reznicek, the Foundation’s first‑ever donor. His commitment sparked a culture of philanthropy that continues today.

Thank you to every donor, scholar, and supporter who joined us. Together, you make access to education possible and remind us why this work matters.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎

At Normandale, we are incredibly fortunate to have a beautiful Japanese Garden on campus.

The garden’s doors are now open and the blossoms are beginning to emerge. 🌸 Today, we honor Normandale’s Japanese Garden, the lessons of peace and reconciliation it holds, and the community that makes its care possible.
