One of the questions we get asked most often at PlaySchool—along with “How do you teach ABCs and math?”—is, “How do you make time for writing?”
My answer is always … through PLAY.
Our PlaySchoolers always have access to paper, a variety of writing tools, books, each other, and teachers who are there to support and encourage them throughout the classroom and outdoors.
But just as important, they have a BIG chunk of time to climb, squish playdough, dig, carry buckets, build, squeeze glue, push, pull, and do all the things that get their bodies ready for writing.
Because writing doesn’t start with putting a pencil in a child’s hand.
It starts with strong shoulders, arms, hands, and cores that help children eventually hold and control a pencil effectively.
So yes, we make time for writing at PlaySchool.
Every day.
