Only my second time seeing Terrestrial Water-Starwort (Callitriche terrestris) on a client's private property in Greene County today. Such a neat tiny plant!

Here are some plant photos from my first field day as part of SALIX! These photos are from a client's private property in Greene County, Indiana and are shared here with permission from the landowner.

This site contains about nine acres of old field that will have some interesting finds during the later season, a maintained open hickory-oak forest totaling about an acre, a two-acre forest, and a small wetland area.

If you have a private property or know of someone with land that you think would benefit from floristic surveying, please reach out or recommend SALIX! There is still room in the Private Lands Flora Initiative detailed here: https://www.salixeco.net/private-lands-flora-initiative. This includes an initial site visit with no labor costs and a free FQA report with management recommendations (mileage reimbursement is required).

SALIX is introducing the Private Lands Flora Initiative!

The Private Lands Flora Initiative is a targeted conservation effort designed to expand floristic knowledge and ecological stewardship across privately owned lands in Indiana. While the majority of the state’s biodiversity occurs on private property, these lands are rarely evaluated using rigorous floristic methods. This initiative provides private landowners with access to professional Floristic Quality Assessment (FQA) surveys at a significantly reduced cost, helping bridge the gap between academic conservation science and on-the-ground land management.

If you are one of the first 12 private landowners to reach out to [email protected], you will receive a floristic inventory and report at your private property with no labor cost during April 2026. This service will be limited to three hours anywhere in Indiana. The standard mileage rate of $0.725 per mile will apply.

An optional photographic portfolio of all the spring ephemerals documented at your property is available at an add on cost of $100. The photographs included in this report will be labelled and downloadable so that you can use the photos as you wish.

Repeat floristic visits to generate a complete inventory of plants at your property can be scheduled at a highly reduced cost for private landowners compared to current market rates. Please visit the following webpage to learn more about this program designed to further conservation on private lands in Indiana: https://www.salixeco.net/private-lands-flora-initiative
