Here is some good information about one of our three charities!
It's Dyslexia Awareness Month and with that we thought you might be curious about what actually happens during a tutoring session at Children's Dyslexia Centers.
Each session runs about 55 minutes, and while every lesson is tailored to the child, most include a few familiar parts:
▪️A review of concepts the child has already learned
▪️Multisensory practice that engages seeing, hearing, and hands-on activity
▪️An introduction to a new skill or concept
▪️Guided reading and spelling practice
▪️A chance to apply new skills in writing, with feedback right away
Tutors adjust the pace as they go based on how each child responds, and progress is formally checked along the way. Most children attend our program for about two years.
If you think your child may have dyslexia, the first step is a formal evaluation, which a child's school or a qualified professional such as a licensed psychologist can often provide. From there, your nearest center can share what enrollment looks like.
