On August 31, 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy, a woman was born who would forever change how the world understands childhood. Dr. Montessori's belief that children learn best through hands-on discovery, freedom within limits, and respect for their natural development continues to guide educators around the globe — including all of us here at MTCNE.

Every day in our AMI training courses, we carry her legacy forward: preparing environments, observing carefully, and trusting the child.

The Montessori journey doesn’t end at high school. 🌱
While the earlier Planes of Development have much more developed theory, environments, and practice, the Fourth Plane—young adulthood, approximately ages 18–24—often remains little more than the final section of the familiar Four Planes chart. It is time to bring it into serious study and practice.

David Kahn and Xavier Barrameda share a new conference update for The Keepers of Alexandria: In the Fullness of Time. The conference will explore an important connection between Montessori’s Four Planes of Development and a structured system of Classical Humanities as one developmental whole.

🗓 October 7–10, 2026
📍 Montessori Training Center Northeast, Hartford, Connecticut

Mario Montessori defined Montessori as “a complex form of aid to the harmonious development of man from birth to adulthood.” Yet the Montessori literature and experimental work for young adulthood remain limited.

The conference brings together several generations of Montessori practitioners and trainers—including senior voices closer to the early Montessori training tradition—to study questions such as:
- How might Fourth Plane practice develop when there is no established “album”?
- How can we avoid simply placing a conventional university model under the Montessori name?
- How can Keepers of Alexandria and structured Classical Humanities change form across the Second, Third, and Fourth Planes?
- How can the earlier planes better prepare the human capacities needed for young adulthood?

The work remains exploratory, but it is not without direction. The threads are already there. We now need to weave them together into one unity.
