We truly could not have picked a more perfect day for today’s adventures! ☀️🍎🚲

After all the rain we’ve had lately, we were so thankful for a beautiful day filled with sunshine, fresh air, and plenty of time outside!

Our Kindergarten–2nd grade students spent the day at Apple Blossom Farms, where they learned about different varieties of apples, how the orchard has grown into what it is today, and of course got to do plenty of taste testing! 🍎 They sampled different apples, tried their famous apple butter and homemade apple c***r, played, explored, and even picked apples to bring back to school and home for a delicious snack! Thank you Shea for having us. 🫶🏼

Meanwhile, our 3rd–6th graders brought their bikes and scooters to school and took advantage of the awesome trails we have right across the street from us. 🚲🛴 They spent the day riding, moving, exploring, and simply enjoying being outside together.

There was just something extra special about today…sunshine after so many rainy days, kids getting to be kids, trying new things, exploring our community, and making memories alongside their friends. These are the simple days that may not seem like a big deal in the moment, but we hope they’re some of the ones our kids look back on and remember. 🍂

As we’ve gotten off to such an awesome start to another school year, I can’t help but look around The Learning Coop and feel incredibly grateful for all of the people who have helped make it what it is today.

When we first started The Coop, we had a vision for the kind of place we wanted to create for kids. Having a vision is one thing. But when other people begin to see it, believe in it, and choose to support it, it becomes something so much bigger than you ever could have created on your own.

And we see that support around us every single day. These are just a few that we wanted to give a special shout out to: 👇🏼

💻 DC Schools Foundation helped fund computers last school year that our students are still using regularly for research, enrichment, and additional learning opportunities.

📖 Christ Community Church provided our school with a set of Bibles and a new online devotion curriculum. Each morning, these resources help us connect God’s Word to our students’ everyday lives…their choices, relationships, character, and the people they are becoming.

🛝 Barry & Dana Day generously donated toward improvements to our playground, allowing us to fix up the swing set and add new play features our kids are enjoying SO much.

🔨 Chris & Jennifer Jackson spent countless hours over the summer painting, installing doors, cleaning, fixing the swing set, making repairs, and doing so many other things to make our school a better place for our students and staff.

🫶🏼 And we have also had multiple anonymous donors quietly make monetary contributions that have allowed us to meet needs, add resources, and provide opportunities. Your generosity has helped shape our school more than you know.

When we look around our school, we don’t just see computers, Bibles, curriculum, playground equipment, freshly painted walls, or improvements.

We see people who chose to invest in our kids and our future generations.

Every thoughtful donation, every hour volunteered, and every resource given is helping shape these kids and their futures.

And maybe one of the greatest lessons that comes from all of this isn’t something found in any curriculum. Our students are growing up surrounded by examples of generosity. They are seeing what happens when people use what they have…their time, talents, resources, or finances to make something better for someone else.

Our hope is that someday, when they have the opportunity, they will remember what others did for them and choose to do the same for someone else.
Our vision for The Learning Coop has always been about creating the best possible environment and opportunities for kids, and watching others believe in that vision and help us build upon it has been incredibly special.

To everyone who has supported us, whether publicly or quietly behind the scenes…thank you for believing in our school, our teachers, and most importantly, our kids.

You are a part of their story, too. 🤍

VOTING HAS ENDED!
Thank you to everyone who helped us determine the “Most Unique” frog! 🙌🏼

🐸📣 WE NEED YOUR HELP…
CAST YOUR VOTE! 📣🐸

Our first Frog Jump is officially in the books, but we still have ONE award left to give MOST UNIQUE FROG!

✨ Scroll through the individual frog pictures below and LIKE the photo of the frog you think is the most unique! ✨

We had such a fun enrichment day! Families were encouraged to spend a little time outside over the weekend to see if they could catch a frog to bring along. Some had luck, while others discovered frogs are getting harder to find this time of year…which gave us the perfect opportunity to learn about brumation, when frogs begin slowing down and preparing for the colder months. 🍂

Thankfully, somehow in this beautiful Iowa weather and recent rain a few students even found their competitors right here in the school yard this morning!
Then the competition was ON! 🏆

Man, are we lucky to have Ms. Ellie with us this year! 🖤 We just have to give her a little shoutout because we see how much time, thought, and effort she puts into giving our kiddos fun, hands-on learning experiences and we appreciate her so much!

This week she has done multiple different activities with each of our different grades, focusing especially on science and social studies, but these little bird nests were just too cute not to share! 🐦🪺

The first and second graders learned why birds have their babies in the spring, reviewed the seasons, talked about how birds build and protect their nests, and then got to build their own structurally safe nests. If you look closely they are complete with baby birds and some even have a few eggs still waiting to hatch. 🥚🐣

Ellie, we see all the extra effort and heart you put in for our kiddos, and we are so thankful to have you as part of our Coop family! 🫶🏼

🙏🏼 The Night-Before-School Prayer 🙏🏼

Dear Heavenly Father,

Tonight, on the eve of a brand-new school year, we place each of our students in Your hands.

Thank You for every child who will walk through our doors tomorrow. Thank You for the unique gifts, personalities, strengths, and purposes You have placed within each one of them. Help us never forget what a privilege it is to be part of their story.
Lord, we pray that this will be their very best school year yet.

May our students grow in knowledge, confidence, curiosity, and courage. Help them discover what they are capable of and give them the perseverance to keep trying when something feels difficult. Let them know that mistakes are part of learning, that hard work matters, and that they can accomplish more than they sometimes believe they can.

Help us recognize the gifts You have given each child and give us wisdom to help those gifts grow. May every student leave this year knowing more, believing in themselves more, and becoming more of the person You created them to be.

But Father, we pray for so much more than academic success.

Help us raise kind humans.

Teach our students to notice the person who needs a friend, to include someone who feels left out, to encourage instead of criticize, to forgive quickly, to speak with kindness, and to stand up for what is right.
Give them hearts that are willing to serve.

Teach them that success isn't only measured by grades, awards, or accomplishments, but also by the way they treat people and the difference they make in the lives around them. Show them that they are never too young to help someone, encourage someone, pray for someone, or make their little corner of the world better.

Help us create a school where every child feels known, loved, safe, challenged, and valued.

Fill our classrooms with laughter and learning. Give us patience on the hard days, gratitude on the good days, and grace for one another every day.

Protect our students and staff as they travel to and from school and throughout each school day. Watch over their health and safety. Give our teachers wisdom, energy, patience, and discernment. Help us see beyond behaviors and struggles and remember that every child who enters our classroom brings a story we may not fully know.

When things don't go according to our plans, remind us that You are still working.

May this year be filled with friendships, adventures, discoveries, growth, memories, and moments our students will carry with them long after they leave our classrooms.

Most of all, Lord, may our students grow closer to You.
Let them see Your love reflected in the way we teach them, encourage them, correct them, forgive them, celebrate them, and care for them. Help us point them toward You not only through the words we say, but through the way we live and love each day.

Tomorrow, when those doors open, help us remember that we aren't simply beginning another school year.
We are being entrusted with children who are becoming exactly who You created them to be.

Give us the wisdom to teach their minds, the patience to nurture their growth, and the love to care for their hearts.

May we make every day count.

Here's to a year of learning big, loving well, serving others, growing in faith, and becoming all that You created us to be.

We give this school year, our students, our families, and our staff completely to You.

In your name we pray, Amen. 🤍

📚 Join Our Substitute Team at The Learning Coop!
We are looking to add some wonderful people to our substitute list for the 2026–2027 school year! We currently have opportunities for both Substitute Teachers and Substitute Teacher Assistants.

🍎 Substitute Teachers
We’re looking for dependable, confident individuals who enjoy working with children and are comfortable stepping in to lead a classroom and carry out the teacher’s plans for the day.

✏️ Substitute Teacher Assistants
A great fit for someone who loves working with kids and would enjoy assisting our teachers, helping students with their work, and providing an extra set of hands throughout the school day. You’ll work alongside our teaching staff rather than being responsible for leading the classroom on your own.

Both positions are as-needed and flexible and are a great way to become part of our small, Christ-centered school community! Take a look at the flyers below for qualifications, responsibilities, and additional details. If you or someone you know would be a great fit for The Learning Coop, we’d love to hear from you!
