Is your child bored this summer? Good.
Mara Learning Sessions talks about this on Facebook Live — tomorrow (June 12th) at 12pm EST.
Joanne Shango, founder and Head of School goes live to talk about something every parent of a child needs to hear.
Boredom is not a problem to solve, it's a signal. And in a world where a screen eliminates boredom in seconds, children are losing access to one of the most important developmental experiences they have.
Joanne will walk through what the Montessori approach to boredom looks like in the Mara classroom, why it matters at this age more than any other and things you can do right now to let boredom do its job.
Twenty minutes. Live Q&A at the end, drop your questions in the comments when you join.
Tomorrow. 12pm. See you here!

Some of the best friendships your child will ever make start at summer camp.
At Mara Discovery Camp, kids from infants through Middle School come together every day to explore, create, build, cook, perform and discover — and somewhere in the middle of all of that, they find their people.
Same incredible Montessori guides. Same hands-on energy. And a community of kids who show up for each other all summer long.
Camp kicks off June 22 at our Bloomfield Hills campus. A few spots remain.

Montessori Myth: Going outside is a break from learning.
The truth? At Mara Montessori, the moment those doors open is when some of the best learning of the day begins.
It's finally warm and beautiful on our Bloomfield and Rochester campuses, and that means the whole world just got a little bigger. Nature walks, outdoor exploration and Going Outs into the real world for fresh air and open space are not a reward for finished work. They are part of the curriculum.
At Mara we have always believed that the world itself is one of the greatest classrooms a child can have. Our students head outside with intention to observe, to discover and to connect with the world around them in ways that a desk and a worksheet simply cannot replicate.
If you want to see what a day at Mara actually looks like, inside and out, we would love to show you around.

Look at what's happening in this photo.
A child is sharing their story. His whole life on a board with photos, memories and milestones, while his classmates lean in, point and genuinely want to know more about him.
This is community at Mara. Not just kids learning side by side but kids who are truly known by the people around them. Older students lead, younger ones follow. And everyone in the room grows through it.
This is what Montessori looks like when it is working exactly as it should.

Cleveland. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And a group of Mara Montessori students who now understand something about culture that no textbook could teach them.
Going Outs are not just field trips. They are the Mara belief that the world itself is a classroom, and sometimes that classroom is in another state.
Music shaped a generation, it drives social change, sparks movements and gave a voice to people who needed one. Our students did not just read about that. They stood inside it.
That is what comes home with them. Not just memories but a deeper understanding of the world they are growing up in and their place in it.

Be Kind. Be Curious. Be Brave.
Sometimes the real world notices.
Our Elementary students visited the Detroit Institute of Arts to do what Mara kids do — explore, observe and create with intention. They were there to study murals, gather inspiration and bring ideas back for a mural of their own.
And while they were working, a stranger stopped to watch.
That is the Montessori difference. When children are trusted with real work and sent out into the real world to do it, the real world takes notice. No worksheets. No simulations. Just kids immersed in art, culture and their own creative process; right in the middle of one of the greatest art museums in the country.
This is what Going Outs look like at Mara Elementary.

He stood in front of the Rivera Court murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts and had one thought.
I want to make one of those. But I want it to mean something to me.
So he did. And when asked what his drawing symbolizes, this fourth grader didn't skip a beat. He talked about letting go of the past, forgiving people and choosing a life of happy relationships over holding grudges.
That is not a worksheet answer. That is a 9 year old who already gets it.
At Mara, Going Outs are not just field trips. They are invitations for children to be moved by the world around them and respond with their whole selves. This kid walked into the Detroit Institute of Arts, saw something that inspired him and created something that was entirely his own. With a philosophy behind it.
We could not be more proud.
This is Elementary at Mara. Curious minds. Big hearts. And kids who have a lot to say.
Be Kind. Be Curious. Be Brave.
