Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation
A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that secures private funding from the community to support the educational initiatives of the BHS. Why a Foundation?
Funding for public schools in Michigan is controlled at the state level and has been constrained for many years. Chronic statewide budget problems are creating hardships for local school districts. Over the last 20 years, state funds to BHS have lagged the consumer price index by 40%, making it increasingly difficult to keep in place our set of highly regarded programs. LAHSER CLASS OF 1980 GIVES BACK TO BHS BY DONATING $5000 TO THE BHSF, AS PART OF THEIR REUNION FESTIVITIES:
On October 4, more than 100 alumni from the Lahser High School Class of 1980 gathered at Pine Lake Country Club for their 45-year high school reunion. The day’s events included an optional tour of North Hills Middle School, the building once known as Lahser High School.
Lahser High School closed in 2013 with the opening of the new Bloomfield Hills High School, which unified Lahser and Andover High Schools into a single campus serving grades 9-12. After several years of limited use by extracurricular programs and sports teams, the former Lahser building underwent extensive renovations funded by the 2020 Bond and reopened as North Hills Middle School, serving grades 6-8 starting fall 2023.
For the alumni who attended, the tour of North Hills offered a glimpse of the transformed facility. While the newly constructed grade-level hallways were largely unrecognizable, some spaces - the pool, the gymnasium, and in particular the auditorium - remained familiar and sparked fond memories among the visitors. One alumnus reminisced about the camaraderie among students, the dedicated teachers, and the opportunities to succeed at whatever kids wanted to do in life. With regard to the teachers in particular, his fond memories were clear when he said, “It felt like you were going to school with friends.”
In a gesture of gratitude, the Lahser Class of 1980 will be donating $5,000 to the Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation in honor of the many educators who helped enable their success beyond high school. Reunion organizers also recognized particular former Lahser Staff Members who went above and beyond, including:
Nick Conti (in attendance at the reunion)
Dave Welcome (in attendance at the reunion)
Dennis Hurley (in attendance at the reunion)
Pete Bowers
Russ Kopitz
Tom McGlone
Ted Guthard

Earlier today, BHS experienced significant damage to the district’s fiber optic network, which serves as the backbone for our communication, instructional technology, and operational systems. This outage has rendered critical functions such as internet access, classroom technology, phone systems, hvac controls systems, and safety measures inoperable across the district. After careful consideration, it has been determined that we cannot ensure the safe and effective operation of our schools under these circumstances. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we are working diligently with our technology team and service providers to repair the damage as quickly as possible. At this time, we are unable to provide a precise timeline for full restoration, but we will keep you informed with updates as they become available.

Last Friday was BHSF Prize Patrol Day! Earlier in the month, the Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation reviewed 53 grant proposals from across the district, requesting approximately $122,000 in total funds. The BHSF grant selection committee evaluated each grant proposal and selected 29 final grants, awarding over $25,000 in total funding. These grants will support technology tools, diverse literature, musical instruments, social/emotional learning resources, new physical education programming, art equipment, and other unique learning opportunities. Congratulations to all of our grant recipients and all of the BHS students and staff who will benefit from these grants!
