SOMS PTA operates completely independently from your old PTA...SOCES PTA. Once your child enters 6th grade, SOMS PTA becomes your new home. Early adolescence and entry into middle school reflect change on multiple levels. The middle school years coincide with key changes in adolescent development, including biological and cognitive growth, social development, and renegotiations of family relations
hips, especially the parent-adolescent relationship. Compared to elementary school, middle school is a larger, more bureaucratic system with many more teachers, peers, and curricular choices. Due to these factors, many parents find themselves taking a step back as their kids become independent and begin to advocate for themselves. SOMS PTA knows the importance of families and schools working together during these formidable years.
